Default port and polish ls head worth it?

is it worth porting, polishing and getting 3 angle valve job on my ls head, i plan on turboing it later, the head is not on the car i bought it seperate so i already sent it out to get cleaned, preasure tested and resurfaced, i just wanted to know if i should just get that done then cams and valve train or just the cams and valve train, thanks any feed back would be helpfull

depends on what you want to do, u sayed turbo so how much hp u wanna make? if its below 300 than keep 100% stock ls, no cams or nothing, if you want to make make more than that get a b16 head and do ls-vtec, or just build the bottom end on the ls and make 350+.

so no, I dont think its worth it, spend it on ls-vtec if you want the head to flow well.

i would definitely port it, you will increase efficiency, reduce spool time and gain some horses on a boosted application.

Do it if money allows.

wouldent it cost just as much as a b16 head and the b16 would flow better anyway?

well yeah it would but i already have the b18b head and if i got a b16 head it would cost $450 for it plus the conversion kit so thats why i dont want the b16 head, but my power goals are 300 whp, i plan to use b16 p30 pistons and hone my block, balance and micro polish the crank so i have the money for the cams right now i just needed to know if i needed to pnp first

P30 pistons? Wouldn't those raise your compression? Leave the stock pistons or compression ratio and turn up the boost instead.

No dont get a PnP, instead get some pistons, rods, bearings, and valve springs.
And you dont want the B16 pistons.

If you're putting the turbo on yourself and this is the first time, get a full kit. Will save you lots of hassle. I might go with some turbo-coated pistons instead, but that's not a bad deal for $450. Are the pistons low compression?

If its your first time with a turbo kit- Do it yourself. you learn more and you learn how the system really works and how to fab stuff and all that- Its a good experience..Takes lots of research but you will get it. If your not gunna turbo it for a while and just want an upgrade- go ahead with the p30 pistons...it'll put ur CR somewhere in the mid 10s tho...lil high for boost, but if ur gunna run the motor without a turbo for a while..its a good idea. And like jared said..if you are gunna turbo it soon...make sure those pistons are low comp..the stock LS is 9.2:1 ish CR and thats pretty good for boost.

Since the head is off the car and already sent in for work, I'd do the valve job. P&P probably isn't going to be very cost effective if you install a turbo kit anyway

if you actually have to pay to get it ported then your better off geting a vtec head.
a port job at the very least is at least $600 and a ported ls head will still not make as much power as a vtec head
in fact if your actually going to spend money on retaings springs and cams for the ls head you better of just geting a vtec head because it will just plan and simple make more power and have more pontechial

the je pistons are same as stock, but now im thinkin just leave the head the way it is and maybe just get new oem pistons and rods with new rings and gaskets for everything, then go ahead and turbo it because my power goals are not that high only 250 to 300 whp, so i just want to keep my motor new oem

Your goals are low now, but just wait!!

I would invest in upgrading bottom and top now, so you dont have to later.
