Default ls or ls/vtec???

I am about to start working on my winter project which is building a motor. I am planning on going pretty far with this project, enough to hopefully get me into the 12s. I already have a spare LS block, I am about to send out to get sleeved.....then i will start to build my bottom end, balance, pistons, rods...etc.

The question I have is, What should I do about the head. I have a b18b head, and a b16 head. From what I understand so far, the b16 head will be better, because it flows better....Is this true? Should I use the b16 head?

Any other advice would be appreciated....Thanks.

A ported LS head will flow slighly better than a B16 head and keep you 'totally' stock... no LSVT hassles... no extra money.. sell the B16 head or part it out and use the $$ to port the LS head

lsvtec

just port out your LS head... alot more reliable and cheaper in the long run.

So a LS head with a full port and polish and crower stage 2 turbo cams would still make less power than a stock b16 head w/b16 cams?

VTEC will make more power, but remember you're going to have to 'T' off an oil line for the turbo from the oil sending unit as it is, if you put the VTEC head in there, you're going to need to 'T' it off again for the VTEC to activate. It's got oil concerns. Talk to someone who's done the LS/VTEC turbo.... just be sure you're getting enough oil pressure to your turbo and head alike.

No you don't need to TEE anything there are a few places to tap from, like the oil pump fitting on the back of the block.

FYI: you can use the oil pump fitting but you'll need a longer alternator belt. There isn't enough room to fit the adapter and a fitting.

For an LSVT turbo, I'd recommed maybe getting the oil pump shimmed to increase pressure. And DEFINITELY an oil pressure gauge.
