vtec not working, need help fast..car is sold on saturday!
ok so my vtec wasnt working, it never has worked..and i have always had a code for vtec solenoid..so i went out and bought one..vtec still doesnt work..all of the wiring looks to be done correctly and i dont understand why vtec wont work..someone please help!
check signal between engine harness solenoid plug and ecu plug (obd1 a4 pin...obd 0 a8 pin)....if you dont have the tools to do that just run a dedicated wire from the solenoid plug to the ecu pin....that should solve the cel....then you should go back and hide the solenoid wire in the harness.
i just totally jumped the harness and its still not working..it engages and then around 6000 rpm it stops working and the enigne light comes on
Check the code and see what it says. I would also check the oil pressure to the Vtec solenoid. I had this problem and wasn't getting enough oil for the Vtec to engage.
check and see if you have oil pressure coming out the oi line. on my homies car he kept throwing a code for iacv and that caused vtec not to work also.

what he said I had that problem aswell.
what he said I had that problem aswell.
the code is vtec soleniod spool valve. i have a feeling that its not getting enough oil for some reason....

First I would take the Vtec solenoid valve off and see if the screen is clogged and blocking oil. Then I would check to see if the tubes in the head(under the cam caps)are in place sending oil into the oil rail and to the solenoid. We didn't have Vtec and found one of the tubes(the exhaust side)was missing. After we replaced it,BAM...Vtec.If everything is cool then you might have an oil pressure problem due to a bad or clogged oil pump or something. If you have an oil pressure gauge, check the oil pressure in the block first, make sure that is good.Let me know.

You can listen to him if ya want but he doesn't know anything J/k Dre. So when you start the car and having it running is there a Check light or no? If yes right off the get go check the wiring for it make sure its in the right spot. If not and comes on later could be a couple of things: 1st check the solenoid by sending power to it and make sure that its working 2nd check oil pressure like pwrspdej1 said, strat with the back of the block at the oil pressure switch, at idle it should be a min of 10psi and at 3k should be a min of 50 psi. If that all checks out good check and make sure that you are getting pressure at the head. Best of luck. Keep us posted

i have a feeling that the cam caps are out of place or something stupid like that..going to try and mess around with that..is there any way to tell which way they are supposed to be facing?
i used to throw code 22 (i think) vtec would work for a while then i'd get a CEL...turns out it was oil pressure - i had to replace all my valve seals....problem solved.
all valve seals are brand new..
im not getting enough oil to the soleniod for some reason..that is like the only possible explanation i can think of..i took off my oil line and its fine..only thing left to do its bend the oil pick up a little higher so it gets more oil..or something is fucked up with the head bigtime.

so as of now, we know that the:
- vtec solenoid itself isnt the issue, since you bought a new one.
- there's current going to the solenoid itself to activate it, so that rules out electrical.
- someone mentioned replacing valve seals, you said you got new ones.
- cam caps are on correctly
so from my observation, either swap out a good known working vtec ecu. see if that works. pull the vtec solenoid itself, clean out the screen area, see if its clogged and give that a try. i am also thinking, i dunno if it is possible, but you could be missing some of those pistons that slide in the rocker arms that engage the vtec. just an idea...but anyways, keep us updated, and good luck.

going to try an ecu today, but i highly doubt thats the issue. vtec soleniod has all brand new gaskets
i just wish i could get this thing working!
