Driving a bit hard today and I seem to have developed the dreaded 5th gear grind at high RPM's Sad . Makes me very sad as I don't want to get rid of the car because the transmission will blow up shortly or something. Also don't really want any temporary solutions like double-declutching.
What are my options for getting the transmission sorted out, I'm guessing it is just worn synchos (as it developed after some particularly harsh changes....). Thing is, transmission swap is not an option as it is the M2B4 (LSD).... unless anybody happens to have a spare one lying around for £50!
4th gen btw
.. ps, was wondering if I could do the job myself, if anybody has a writeup of it, if I could take the car off the road for say a couple of weeks what tools would I need, where would I get the new synchros from and are there any special tools I need?

Well by high RPM I mean it grinds from ~ 3700 RPM
Which means I can't really be hauling *** properly anymore. If I do a very very fast gearchange it is hardly noticeable but if I am doing some 'strong' acceleration (not racing) and changing at 4000 then I can feel it grind as I enter 5th.

Ok, is there a guide to doing this? How much will it likely set me back in parts? If I take the car off the road for 2 weeks do you think I should be able to get it sorted by myself in that time?
The Dreaded "5th gear grind" that 5th gens get almost always get without fail is only when your going to into gear, not while accelerating. It can be fixed woth some Royal purple trans fluid.
Perhaps you dont have a 5th gen, but it sounds like there is something much more wrong with your trans.
Unless you have alot of mechanical experience, i wouldnt recommend taking apart your tranny by yourself.

Double pump the clutch before you shift and that should cut down on the grinding.
