Default 5th gear pulls

Just wondering.. about long 5th gear pulls.. how many people did it, and for how long?
I ask this due to high stress on engine... and if flooring it in 5th gear for like a minute or so will break/melt things

It's all in the tuning. I wouldnt reccomend it, but if you are on the Autobahn then go ahead

I do on occasion, but for no more than 10s. at a time. I hear it gets your EGT's up way high and puts a lot of stress on the engine.

Just get a good tune and watch your EGTs... Once you get a feel for what is the normal EGT range, you can judge how long you want to risk pulling in 5th based on your current EGT compared to normal WOT 4th EGT, thats what I do anyways. Once I near 800C I chill out, but your numbers will vary based on where your sensor is located and whatnot.

We do it every once and awhile on the streets (hey gotta have some fun)... In Duc's car it just breaks loose so it probabliy really doesn't matter... On a lower boost car like Brian's you can tell there is a lot more load on the motor... As long as you're motor is tuned you should be fine... How fast are you trying to go, 150mph? haha

Even if you're shooting for 150.... I sure as hell hope it doesn't take you more than a minute in fifth to get there!

Well... I got 1.4 engine (stock 90HP) .. and now boosted it's ~140HP.
So... I suppose my top speed should be arround 140 mph.. and it does take some time to reach that speed, or to keep 'cruising' at that speed.
As for roads.. as someone said 'autobahns' ... and on some parts there is even no traffic at all, so you don't really put anyone in danger.
My normal 'cruising' speed is 100-110mph there (well, *was* before I installed turbo anyway). It's not like intend to drive at 130mph all time, just occasionaly, since driving faster than 110 can get really tiring after extended period of time.

i rarley go all out in 5th gear, i save that for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear.... from what i've heard it just puts too much stress on the engine and clutch.

On my old car Id max out 5th gear(150-155 mph) on a weekly basis and have done numerous long high speed runs (ie. such as hauling *** w/ the gumballers) and I never broke anything Just gotta know what you're doing.

cylinder temps get high, and if your car is tuned to be able to take high end runs, nothing will happen.

haha i do the same thing every once in awhile when ppl on I-5 **** me off.... it helps to get the steam off.... theres nothing like 8k in 5th gear....

i guess its really up to you and how you drive but if you are trying to go for top speed might i suggest that you take off your exhaust if you run that because it will help out TREMENDOUSLY and also when i go 150 its only my top speed because i run out of gear..... if i had the gearing my car would go 10-20mph more easily... basically what im trying to say is that if you are going for top speed dont do it cuz that is putting a lot of stress on your motor.........

I've done quite a few high speed pulls. I've started detonating quite a few times and had to lift (even running pig rich and low timing). Don't knock and you aren't gonna break anything. Guess you gotta have some equipment to sence knock though huh..............
