Default dohc zc overheating....why??

ok so today i go to drive to the junkers which is about a 1/2hr drive or so from my house, and about half way there i notice my temp gauge is almost in the red. so i pull into the gas station and check the fluid is at max in the overflow bottle so i'm like wtf is wrong. i decide to hook the rad fan up to 12v so it stays on all the time. i keep driving and its fine, no overheating anymore.... until about 2 hrs later i leave to go home and the ****** thing starts overheating again with the fan on constantly! so i pull over and let it cool down and then go again etc etc till i get home. wtf is wrong with my car anyone know???

start with the basics, check the radiator cap (cool of course, not when it's hot), thermostat (try bleeding to see if there are any bubbles), water pump, condition of the radiator and coolant, etc.

could be anything, try replacing it. it sucks but process of elimination. try the most common or most likely culprit. consult a chiltons manual or haynes manual. or maybe someone on here can suggest a priority of different things to check out.

1. bleed the coolant to get rid of any air pockets.
2. make sure your not loosing coolant.

If your fan was switching on then you thermostat is probably fine. You could very well have a blown HG. Did it smoke at all?

i bled the system when i swapped the motor last summer and it hasent leaked since. the fan comes on. it gets worse as i drive, the temp goes up when i'm driving, not when i'm stopped at a light. doesnt really matter how fast i'm going if i moving it goes up and goes down when i'm stopped.

check to see if your coolant in the rad itself is full, or it might be the thermostat, or the temp sender could also be bad use a mechanical guage to determine if you are actually overheating or its a bad guage

Souds like the HG...only without the smoke.
