Default may be time for new clutch..?

Hey guys I need some advice on if my clutch is actually going. For example, last night I am entering 95 and got on it from first..hit second and the RPM's just hang at around 7.5(that's when I shifted out of first) when I am already into second with the clutch out. It then starts to acelerate probably as I left of the gas some. Is this "slipping"? Sometimes it seems to hook up nice and others, especially into second, it seems to slip. I am @34,000 on an 04. What is your advice and if it does sound like the clutch going bad, what would be a good after market clutch that's very similar to the stock, but is a little tougher and good for track days?

PS - is it possible that I could be giving too much gas when shifting and this is the cause? This only happens when I am shifting quickly and am up in the RPM's.

thanks man! That's a nice setup. SO does it sound like it may be time for a new clutch or?

Again, I appreciate the link!

It some what sounds like the clutch is slipping, but could this be normal fur high RPM/ Quick shifting.

When i first got my car i was shifting it like it was a civic (power shifting) and i was always wondering why the tires didn’t chirp much if none at all
WARNING- DON’T SHIFT LIKE THAT ^ lol

so it could be a high RMP/quick shifting thing.

If u shifted naturally, but at high RPM’s does it still “slip” ?

But ill like to see other peoples opinions/comments

I am about to go out for a spin and hit a few onramps. I wll see what happens. No power shifting here, just normal fast shifting. Sometimes a chirp and other times it does this. Not sure. I will post back in a while.

Your clutch is going bad/slipping. Try doing a 2nd to 3rd shift near redline and see what happens. The first to second sometimes doesn't cut it to determine if the clutch is bad. Another thing that you could do is cruise normally and get the RPM's to around 4000 in 4th or 5th and floor it all the way. If the rpm's start climbing quickly with no adverse effect in acceleration, it is your clutch.

go aganist a hill, that's the best way to check slipping clutch.

high rev dump sometime it's not accurate

what should I be doing with the hill.....shifting as I go over?

I did some more testing last night and it seemed to hook up nice into second, but after a few drives it did slip for a second(rpm's hanging high almost at redline) and then the rpm's would drop(to about 6500) as the clutch caught hold. It doesn't slip at all if I shift normally even at redline. So it has me thinking it may have something to do with me timing my shifts and not getting off the clutch fast enough and I am basically flooding the engine as I mash the gas. Again not %100 sure.

PS - all of this happens in the 1st - 2nd shift and not the others. I will double check with some more 2nd-3rd shifting and see whats up.

Get going about 20 mph, put it in 6th gear, leave the clutch pedal in, rev to 9k, dump the clutch and keep your foot on the gas. If your clutch is bad, it'll stay at high rpm for a few seconds, if you clutch is good, it'll drop pretty much immediately. From what you described, I'd be very surprised if your clutch is still good.

Did you say it's an '04?

Sounds like the clutch delay. I remember more than a few threads about it.

To check if the clutch is slipping do this...

Go out in it, put it in third at a LOWER RPM, and floor it. As the RPM's rise, if they start to shoot up with the speedo going no where, the clutch is slipping. If it accelerates okay, then you are fine. If it is slipping, it won't be able to hold the power, so it will shoot the RPM's to the sky and the speedo will not go up.

The low rpm in a fairly high gear up a steep hill is the best method to see if your clutch is slipping.

If you want to minimize the accelerated wear, remove the clutch delay valve.

thanks guys. I wil test out the accel. like you said. Yesterday I hit a few more onramps and it does seem to shift properly. It is just the first to second shift where I am getting mixed signals. I may need to adjust my shifting a little, because sometimes it grabs hard and sometimes it seems to not. I even did a few drops from around 70 into thrid....it grabbed hold(already in vtec) and I was gone. No slipping and very little delay if any.

yep, I guess all is well then. I went over a few bridges (lack of hills in FL), had it in sixth at low speed and floored it. The mph and rpm increased respectively. I then tried it in different gears with same results. I think it is time to remove the delay. But what about my warranty??
