Default That triangle cutout thing in the bumper/hood, functional?

Im trying to get some cool air into my engine bay just cause it gets super hot in there being turbo and all...

I have seen s2k's with a triangle shape cutout of either the front bumper or the hood, im not sure which it is, maybe someone will post a pic. Are these things functional? I figure it would pretty much have to be at the top of the bumper where it meets teh hood or at the base of the hood where it meets the bumper so that high velocity air would enter through it....

I was thinking of cutting one out right in front of my air filter so it could get some cool air, but then again what happens in the rain and such is there some type of filter or blockoff you can put in front of it?

God I wish i had a pic so this would make more sense but hopefully someone knows what im talking about.....

Make a hood vent. Let the hot air escape instead of trying to force in cool air.

yeha don't cut a hood scoop, your friends will make fun of you for days, do you have a front mount intercooler?? a couple other things you can do is get a aluminum radiator and a kick *** fan

Here's what I did for my road course car...

Just a hole in the front bumper, with some aluminum walls behind it to direct the air at the radiator, and then a drop-vent in the hood. It makes a substantial difference in reducing heat-soak. The increased exposure to outside cool air also serves to increase power a bit, since the turbo is cooler. I used to be able to get the manifold and turbo glowing red hot, but I haven't seen it happen at all after I did the venting mods. My friends give me **** about the hole in the bumper, but it works well and I told them that they can make fun of it when they are able to pass me. The drop-vent is very low profile and you can't even see it at some angles.

Are you talking about a N.A.C.A duct?

I just put spacers in the hinges of my hood to raise it up. Yeah some people are going to say stuff but i like to try anything that is cheap. Hot rodders used to do it why can't i?

Hood spacers and a hood scoop, from when I had ITB's and my intake was at the back of the engine bay. It made a big difference in my IAT's:

thanks for all the replies, Weston's design is pretty close to what im seeking, i scoured the internet but still couldnt find the exact thing i was looking for...

its kind like the cutout on the front of this hood (the smaller one of the 2, toward the front)

or this, but usually ive seen this as a triangle shape, not a square

thoughts on cooling?
