Tuned Hondata
Will it be worth my time to buy a hondata s300 for my GSR, and have it tuned w minor mods h/i/e. If so would i notice any difference in HP, would it help the car run better? Is it worth the money? Thanks alot for the help.
Even with IHE you should pick up a couple horsepower from a good tune but it really wouldn't be worth the money that you'd spend on the unit and tuning. If you've got a lot of cash to throw around go for it, it can't hurt, and if you ever build your motor or decide to go turbo, you'll already have the unit and you can just get it retuned.

if youre in to making power??? if youre in to going faster in the 1/4 ??? not understanding the "into that stuff" comment...if youre not into it...why would you modify your car??

haha..what I meant was theres some people who won't put NOS on their car for anything. I'd run it, and am probably gonna dump this money-pit turbo and put that on instead.
A number of shops in our area won't even do anything with NOS..like Jotech, Alamo. I talk to random people we meet up with and they'll sink $1000+ into i/h, full catback, chipped ecu, why not just throw a 75 shot on it and be done with it? but they won't do that because of all the "horror" stories they've heard. so that's what I was getting at.

those are stories from rookies who dont know a spark plug from a spark plug wire...they do improper installs, and dont take the necessary precautions or know what to look for...

right. I think a number of people are just scared to work on their car, because if something goes wrong, they don't know how to fix it, then things start to get expensive. or what i run into the most, is just a bunch of talk and not much going on under the hood.

ive always felt if you dont have bare minimum knowledge of knowing how to change your cams then you shouldnt be allowed to call yourself a car enthusiast..

good point. I like that one. so you're saying knowing how to put gas in it doesn't count?

Yes..
All I was saying is, $450+ for an S300 + couple hundred to tune (if you don't have a friend doing it) is a lot to pay for what I would not consider to be a big HP gain. Add a 55-75 shot onto that, and you might have something.

we'll see how bad the consequences are. if I end up throwing on nos, I'll let everyone know if(when) I blow the engine. I'm gonna run a 100shot on a pretty much stock LS.

with full bolt ons (correctly sized and chosen...not a random mix match of varying sizes that probably meant nothing to the buyer when he bought them..) depending on the engine...ive seen on average around 10-15 hp gain after tuning...but do i think it justifies the money youve spent on tuning software and time with the tuner?? no...1000 for good full bolt ons plus 300 tuning..1300 for 15hp....ill pass
btw the 300 is just the time with the tuner...this doesnt factor in the chipping and socketing of your obd1 ecu...and even worse..if youre obd2 and have to buy an obd1 ecu PLUS a conversion harness...not worth the money

I don't agree, It depends on what your goals are for the car, this will turn into a HP/$$ debate I know but I would strongly recommend a good tune if you are serious about achieving numbers that your car is capable of.
You an get tuned for about $150 if you have everything in place and no issues arise while you are on the dyno

Yea I know this is just a matter of opinions..
The tune might be $150..but it's like $500+ for a new Hondata S300. That's if you don't know anyone who can hook you up. So now, you're spending a minimum of about $650 for this. That's if you install everything yourself and already have harnesses, etc. If you don't do it yourself, and don't have access to friends who can do the work for cheaper, it could quickly run upwards to around $1000. If you're planning on lots of future mods, ie turbo/nos/all-motor, maybe it would be smart to start getting some engine managment mods in place. But if money's tight, or nothing major is planned anytime soon, that's a lot of cash for the gain you'll see.

s300?..are you turboed or do you have individual throttle bodys? not that you really need s300 id go with the s100 or just chip it with something less expensive,
oh wait i think you do need an s300 for new spark plugs
