Default Tach off

Hey everyone. First off, I would like to thank everyone for even considering looking at my post. I have a 92 Civic VX and my tach is off by anywhere from 500 to 1000. It shows that my rpm's are are higher than what they really are. For instance, when I start it up, it says that I am at like 2500 but i know that I am way under that. Do any of you have any idea what could be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, does it start off at 2500, then drop down? To a regular idle or?

No, it ranges from 2000 to 2500, and i know my engine is not running that high. It never drops down anywhere in the range that it should be in. Sorry I wasn't clear the first time.

some tachs have little wires on the back that u have to cut one or the other for a 4 cylinder.....make sure u have the right one cut, check ground/power....make sure they are firm, what do you have your signal wire hooked up to?

if its stuck there, maybe check for a vacumm leak, or your fast idle valve is stuck open

You have the same problem as me, except mine reads about 1500 rpms too low. I hit the rev limiter at what the tach reads is 6000. I have an ex so of course its supposed to be 7200.

I havent had the chance to swap clusters, but to narrow it down, that would probably be the fastest way to find out what the problem is.
