Default LSD tranny

Hi guys,

Is it possible to tell if a tranny is lsd or not without removing the axles?
I heard that if you spin one tyre and the other spins in the same direction then you have an lsd tranny. If it spins in the opposite direction its an open diff.

Can someone confirm this.

No way of telling if a tranny is equipped with LSD. You have to the axles off.

It says it right on the tranny, by the serial # or vin # or whatever, it says "LSD" - if not then it's not LSD

Not always true. My stock Y21 w/ LSD on my car spins in the same direction. But I've heard that ITR trannys don't do this and they have LSD

Not true either. My Y21 doesn't say anything but I looked through the differential, no rod

not true. when i did my swap my tranny(JDM B16A) had no LSD stamp nor the label saying what model tranny it was. i also had to remove the axles to see.
and yes it was LSD . spinning the tires trick doesn't work when looking for LSD.

well it is a y21 I got and I think they come with lsd as an option. So I guess I'll wait and see when I'm changing CVs.

The thing is the car launches very aggresively. not like ah pegleg.

open diffs light up both wheels most of the time.

my quaife spins both wheels when in neutral. Put the car in gear, like 5th gear. lift it off the ground, and turn a wheel. If it spins in the opposite direction, you def have a open diff. if they both spin in the same direction, get a friend to hold one with slight pressure. if he can easility hold it while you spin, open diff.

or just put one wheel in grass, one wheel on street, and dump it! if you sit there spinning, open diff!
