Default Car won't start after sitting for a short time...

Okay the first time this happened I jumped out to get $$ at an ATM. Got back in like 2 minutes later and the car would turn over, but wouldn't start.

Tried for about 3 minutes, gave up. Walked away, made a phone call (thought I was out of gas) and came back. Tried again, no go.

Waited around for five minutes, and had a thought - popped the gas lid and PSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH all the pressure came out. Got back in, she started right up. No more problems.

Today - Got out, bought what I needed at the store, got back in maybe 5 minutes later, wouldn't start. Tried the same thing with the gas lid, PPPPSSSSSSSSHHHHH
again, all the pressure came out. Still didn't start. Tried about 3 more times and cranked over and over, then stopped, and tried real quick one more time - fired up.

WHAT IS THIS FROM? Fuel filter? The car has 172k on it, I replaced plugs and wires, but nothing else has been done since I bought it. It did it once before I put my intake on and once after, so that's not it.

Thanks in advance -

Alex

Most likely the main relay. I have the same problem when my car sits in the sun while I am in a store or something for a few minutes. However, mine hasn't done it in awhile.

do you hear a relay sound under your dash when you try to start it? maybe it's your starter? do you know ho to jump it from the starte itself? if this happen again try to put you key on ignition and open your hood and start it from the starter itself.

I'm sorry, but I am new to CRX's, is the main relay located in the fuse box in the engine bay or inside to cockpit.

I'm retarded,

thanks in advance,

aj

What kinda oil do I use? 10w-30. Why?

I don't know, this is just so weird b/c after it sits for a little bit more, or after I open up the gas tank, it seems to be ok. I'll let you guys know if it pulls it again on me.

Thanks for the help!

Alex

By the way - can someone out there give me a clue on how hard it would be to adjust my valves? I think they "slap", "knock", or whatever it is that valves do when they're out of adjustment...I did my suspension and intake by myself, but that's the extent of my mechanical knowledge.

Thanks again!

Valves are probably something that will take practice and a few 45 min sessions to get it right.. buy a helms or chilton or book for your car year make and model, it goes over it in detail.. or use the wonderful internet and look it up on google
http://hazone.com/default.htm?howto/b18cvalve.htm

this page explains with photos how to do it on a dohc vtec motor which is this should give you a good idea on how its done.. but my best advice is to get a book for your car and motor and give it a few tries.. make sure you crank the motor over once manually after each adjustment from the crank pully to make sure you have valve clearance and dont bend any valves .. but it sould be okay thats just a saftey tip if you still get ticking let it be known valves are very sensitive.. you want to put the feeler in until its snug and make sure to not move it at all when retightening.. i recommend a valve adjustment tool you can get them at kregan or your local car shop and they help alot in tightning the nuts without moving from your adjustment.
