Default Starting issues, maybe distributer?

I have a 93 hatch with a b17 and I've had some problems with getting it to start latley. I went to start it about 3 weeks ago and it turned over but would not start. It was weird because it ran fine the night before but wouldn't fire up in the morning. I didn't really need the car and hadn't had time to look at it until yesterday. I turned the key and it started up after a few seconds. I went to drive it and get some gas but as I was pulling in it died. I got more gas and tried to start it again and nothing. It sat for about 15 minutes and I tried again and it fired up after a few seconds then died after sitting for about 5 minutes. I dont think the problem is fuel because I can smell it when the engine turns over. I believe its a lack of spark and maybe the distrubuter but im not sure. Any ideas what t could be? Also I was wondering if any other distributer would fit besides the one made for the b17 because I found a few used ones for 50 dollars which I would much rather pay than the 225 that autozone wants.

Thanks in advance

how is the battery? A few times I was driving then my car suddenly dies, it happened to me on the freeway too. I replaced the battery and spark plugs and its fixed.

I dont think it could be the battery because i replaced it less than a year ago and I would think that once i got the car started it wouldnt have died again like it did after i drove it for about 5 minutes. I also had someone give me a jump at the gas station and that didnt work either so im pretty sure its not the battery. Im going to replace my plugs and see if that does anything. Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else?

not positive if this is why,but i had a bad main relay once and it only started when it wanted.never had it die during driving tho.turn the key and wait to c if u hear a click from a relay.if not its prob not working.

Any CELs? Also check for spark and fuel. Check your grounds make sure they are firmly connected and not frayed.
