Default Opinions Please . . . (About buying a used car and some other stuff)

I'm thinking about buying a 4th gen Prelude VTEC. The car's mileage is high (182,000), so my friend suggests me to do a compression test if I do get it. Should I? How much does it cost for compression testing?

Also, I'm considering taking the car to Inline Four for a major service afterwards. Anyone got any opinions you can dispense about Inline Four? Should I just get the car serviced at some regular shop?

Inlinefour are great people. Excellent choice.

What are your goals for the car?

All you need is a compression tester, you can pick one up at any auto parts store, I got mine for $19.99. It's easy to do, and if the compression is low, you should get new slugs and rings, get some oversized Type-S pistons if Inline Four can bore your engine without sleeving it, unlike any of the shops around here

Well, it's gonna be my daily driver with some minor mods (I/H/E, suspension mods, etc.). There are some nice hills here in my area, so I might run those a little.

Yeah, I was just wondering about Inline Four and their service. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. If I do like the car and decide to get it, I'll probably test the compression and get it serviced ASAP.

Are you thinking about any engine work? Type S pistons & cams? Just wondering. If you are not tearing down the engine then you should have a compression test done.

honestly i would just pay the $130 and take it a honda dealership for a pre-purchase-diagnostic. do this BEFORE you buy the car! that way, if there are problems you can save yourself the headache, and if it's clean, then you have peace of mind. if the car's been maintained, honda motors are EASILY good for 300k.
