Default 01-05 Civic Audio question

The factory CD headunit actually seems to be decent on the 01-05 Civic. Yeah, no MP3 or anything, but as far as sound it is ok (much, much better than the older Honda headunits). This one seems to put out a little more wattage.

Has anyone just replaced the oem speakers with better ones, and have you found that the sound quality improved by a little or a lot?

I don't wan't a sub

I don't want to replace the headunit at this time

Any recommendations are appreciated.

imo the difference between oem and almost any aftermarket speakers is like night and day you are going to get better sound quality overall and less distortion at high volumes, i am running full eclipse in my car

I have polk MoMo 6.5 components in the front door panels, ran me 350 bucks and I installed them myself. Flush mounted the tweeters in the door panels.

VERY high quality sound out of this kit. Crisp clean highs, thumping mids and lows. You cant go wrong with upgrading the speakers.

Heres a pic of the tweeters flush mounted in the doors.

no, 2 tweeters, 2 mid bass. The tweeters go in the door panels, and the mid-bass' go in the door itself.

Its an easy install, plus the upgraded sound is amazing.

I think fventura03 meant that your car came with tweeters standard, and you added 2 more. Making 4 tweeters total.

But yeah, the OEM's are still hooked up and functional.

My fault about that.

You running those off the factory headunit?

I just really want to know if the oem headunit has enough power to make a good set of 2 or 3-way replacement speakers sound good.

Straight off the head unit.

No sound problems/static. Sounds very good. I listen to alot of instrumental music, like live mixed cd's and such, and you can hear EVERYTHING. I was VERY suprised on how good it sounded when I cranked it up for the first time. But dont turn it up TOO loud, youll blast yourself out, because there are alot of highs out of the stock headunit.

They really are awesome. Ill probably be utilizing a decent small 4 channel amp when I do the rears, but that will be a WHILE yet.

Good to know--thanks for the info. The stock headunit is rumored to be an Alpine, but regardless--the lows and highs are so much better than the pre-01 units it isn't funny.

Think I'll be replacing the speakers next time I get a chance.
