Default aftermarket deck

whats the point of an aftermarket CD-deck if you have upgraded speakers and such? will you get improved sound quality? reason I ask is because i'm not too big into sound systems, but i like a nice, clean sound so I bought rockford 3 ways for the front and back, but i still have the OEM tape deck with a 6 disc in the trunk. should I buy an aftermarket stereo? tia

The only way you are going to get improved sound quality is with having external amps in your system. The amps that are incorporated into the decks are fine but not outstanding. You can get the best speakers in the world and hook them up to an OEM deck - they will still sound like crap. Through my experience, I have found out that the electronics (amps/H.U.) make the biggest difference than just upgrading the speakers. I personally put more $$ into the electronics than speakers but that is just me.

Each any everyone of us have the best listening tools in the world (our ears) - It only matters to you how your system sounds. Have you listened to any of your friends aftermarket systems? How do they sound compared to yours? Have you demo'd any equipment and any local stereo shops?

ah i see, I always thought amps were just for when you had a sub(s), well I learned something new. so you're sayin that through an aftermarket deck would be better then the OEM deck because the aftermarket deck has a better internal amp?
i don't want an external because of weight issues and because that's more money steering me away from my goals. i've listened to a few of my buddies aftermarket systems but most of them have aftermarket decks for bling purposes runnig stock speakers, so it sounds worst than mine. thanks for your input man

if you buy a nicer deck you will get improved sound quality as well as more power going to you speakers
but if you go cheap on the radio then you really won't get that dramatic of a difference

Sound quality will improve slighty, you also gain alot of control if you buy a more high end unit.

Let me throw another wrench into the situation....

You don't NEED a high end headunit to get good sound. What many people perceive as sounding better is a result of more power, not that the factory headunit is a piece of crap.

Dave Navone of AutoSound2000 made the statement that some of the best headunits period were those produced by Delco and thrown into GM cars in the 90's....

Just some food for thought. The factory headunit has a very wimpy amplifier, and aftermarket ones, while extrememly over rated, are still better then what OEM gave you.

As a strict transport, the OEM head will probably last longer then an Aftermarket one will...
