I am in the middle of installing the front Koni shocks on my CRX using the stock springs. I need to re-use the stock collar that is located on the body of the front shock. It is also used as a bracket to hold the brake lines. I am having a hard time trying to get it off.

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on how I could remove the collar from the stock strut.

yea,

I did this same procedure on my 97 civic and they came right off. This seem to be really hard to get off. I have tryed using a vice to hold the collar, and a rubber mallet to hammer on top of the strut.

has anyone here installed shocks themselves on their CRX?

 

are you talking about the part that sits atop the damper fork when installed?
i didn't know that part came off the stock strut. i thought it was part of the strut.
wierd...

 

i had this same problem... it sucks that koni doesn't provide something to mount the brake lines. I tried getting the spring perch/line mount off the stock shocks.. i didn't get it. i hammered at them, and tried liquid wrench, but to no avail. So... i just have my brake lines zip-tied out of the way... and yes, i've installed shocks on my civic.

Put the stock shocks in a bench and don't hammer on one side/spot but work around it and use sense instead of force..

It works..

 

it'll come off with some effort.. but mine came off with a few whacks of the hammer
and yes i've installed my koni yellows with h&r race springs myself

 

I will guess I will give it another try.

COOL! we took a few whacks at a stock strut we had laying around, and after a few hits, the ring bracket thing slid right off. keep hitting it!
