Default New to the honda world...

The other night i got in an accident (not my fault) and totalled my mustang gt. i am now looking into possibly a swapped turbo hatch. i have searched and tried to look up as much information as i can. but nothing really jumps out and answers this question: how much am i looking to spend to have a high 12 second hatch? im assuming that to hit that goal i will need around 300whp. which turbo kit would be the most efficient to reach that? also, should i save money and go for the b16A1 or spend money that could be dropped into the turbo kit for the b18C1. would my best bet be to buy an EG or EK stock hatch then swap the motor and tranny, or buy an already swapped one and go from there?

im sorry if these questions have been beat to death, but i just want a realistic number for the money i would have to drop to get what i want.

kinda beat to death, but welcome to the winning team

ok well first, we NEED to know you're budget.

but just generally speaking, you want a turbo to put out good PSI and still spool fast. this isnt a mustang, we don't have low end power. i suggest a equal-lenght manifold, there are plenty of people selling them here, some fab them themselves. you would probably want a hybrd t3/t40e and roughly 15psi give or take 5 psi.

also you need a good base motor to start with. a GSR w/ skunk2 manifold should be a great base, considering they love boost and they are relatively cheap (~3k full swap) BUT d-series motors have gone up to 300whp before, they will probably need a little more prep work.

my favorite chassis is the EG, light, nimble and almost everything interchanges with its bigger cousin, the integra, and the teg's best friend, the ITR

theese are just suggestions dont forget to not skimp out on suspension, because drag racing is almost a waste of a honda chassis, since they where born in the land of the touge racing.

goodluck in your quest to 12's, i suggest you spend lots of time in the forced induction section and learn from people that are WAY more knolegable ppl then me.

definately can pull it off for 8grand

car - 2500
motor - 3000
turbo goodies - 1000-2000

makes 6500-7500 and the rest is to get it dyno tuned (which is a no-excuse MUST)

one quick question, how much do shops usually charge to swap that out...im not mechanically inclined.

i'm pretty new too. lucky i didn't have to put in money to build the car but i did get to work on it alot. and when he decided to sell. i ended up with it. : ow nice was that. but to get 300 will be easy. you can get a drag kit and abt 15 PSI later with a tune you should be well over 300

just find a car with a swap already in it. you can find eg's with b16s for 3-4k if you look hard enough. if youre having a shop do all the work for you it gets expensive fast

yeah thats what i was afraid of. i want to keep it cheap as possible. i think i will just try and find an already swapped car then just put the rest of the money in the turbo kit. exactly how much hp would i need to push to run mid 12's all day? i have a friend with a 5.0 that i would just love to see the look on his face when i fly by him.

if you want a quick car that's unique - try a Chevy Cavalier with a Quad 2400 Trans Am motor, boost that. a friend of mine has one. lol when cavalier screams past vettes.

Why do a turbo, you can do a mild build of an h22 and still pull high 12's and not put near the wear and tear on the motor that the turbo will cause.

With a half decent suspension and slicks I've seen a few 250whp dip into the 12s, but yeah 300whp will def get you there. But this isn't a RWD Mustang, street tires tend to just spin through the first few gears. So if you're gonna run your buddies 5.0, I suggest doing it with slicks at the track.

thats exactly why i want a turbo. i want to feel the boost. ive never owned a boosted car and always wanted to. if im gonna go with a b16 or b18 and boost it, do i need to build up internals? if so how involved is it?

start searching man, all this stuff has been covered. And even if you are not mech. inclined, you could probably swap a honda engine. It is literally all bolt in, with the required mounts of course. Very easy, and worth the exp.

You don't by any chance have a b16 in your car do you.

Nope b18c1 turbo but a b16 would be better for his car because of how light it is, especially on the street that thing will Rip!
