mid-engined eg hatch? (similar to renault 5 turbo)
im new here, and wanted some advice on a possible project:
how does a hybrid mid-engined civic hatch sound? i really like renault 5 turbos, but at over 20K$, cant afford one.
so, i want to build a similar car. originally i thought about a kp61 w/ a 4age, but honda parts are more available and most likely cheaper. i want to try to put a b-series motor in the backseat, hopefully i will be able to position it such that a stock honda tranny can be used (mr2's can take a fwd tranny, for example). now, this is years down the road, but im excited and am starting to get some research done on it. i have no clue if its been done (prolly has been). finally, i would make an enclosure for the motor, as seen in the renault...
sound interesting? impossible? what do *you* think?

btw- renault:

Sounds like a lot of work and expensive but go for it.
The worst that could happen is you spend some money and time. No matter the out come you'd learn something.

well, there is already a mid-engined, h22 powered Del Sol and a mid-engined Integra on Honda-Tech, it can be done for sure. Have fun!

well im hoping it wont be *too* much money. early 90's hatch, cheap. usdm b16a or maybe jdm, i will most likely need a tranny too. maybe odd suspension components.
between the hatch parts and the new motor and tranny i hope to get it done.
other thoughts:
i will want to put the radiator up front and plumb it back, like in an mr2. i need to think up a clever way to get cold air to the motor, and also a way to seal it reasonably from the cockpit. one of my big concerns is the shift linkage. im not familiar w/ honda trannys, but foresee the 'reversed' direction of the drivetrain to be a shifting problem....

mid-engined Integra
mid-engined DelSol
ask these guys about their projects. they're both pretty skilled fabricators and I think they've both considered doing more projects as a business.
and it will cost you 20g's or more, unless you do the work yourself. There is TONS of custom fabrication involved. you can't just buy all the parts and plop them in the back seat.

well talk to those two dudes. Follow their projects. They both seem to me to be very helpful and informative to those who ask questions.
good luck, and don't forget to keep HT updated whenever you start your project.
