Brake pedal to the floor?!?!?!?! Help!
A while back I busted a bleeder screw on the drums on my 89 dx hatch. Then a little bit after that I accidently popped the cylinder out on one of the drums and after that my brakes didn't work.
I got some new bleeder screws, used some easy outs to get the busted one out, and then I bled the brakes twice. It worked, brake pressure was fine.
Then!
The other day I drove a long ways on the highway and since then if I brake for a long period of time the pedal eventually goes all the way to the floor and feels like there is no pressure. It does it slowly if I am slowly braking. If I brake fast it is fine. Brakes still work well enough when it is as the floor, but I know this is not normal. It happened a couple times before but after this long highway trip in hot weather it happens all the time.
Should I just bleed them again, the fluid is pretty black, should I just change that all and then bleed them?
HELP!
Thanks.

Bleed the whole system
If it's black then you will want all new fresh fluid.
Also, check for any leaks in your lines while you are at it.

Everything was fine before I popped the cylinder out on a drum and such. So I am hoping there is no leak. My friend and I both have different ideas on how you are supposed to bleed a whole brake system. What would you say is the best way?
Or the only way I guess?
Thanks.

On both my CRXes, I had symptoms where the pedal would slowly sink to the floor while I was at a stop. In both cases, the master cylinder was the problem. The seals were starting to go bad internally, so the brake fluid leaked past them. Changing the MC (and bleeding everything a whole lot afterwards!) solved the problem.

How hard was that? I have heard from people about swapping MCs on their cars that it isn't that hard. How much was your MC also?
Thanks!
Thanks!
i got my mc from a junkyard which is kinda stupid because i could be in bad shape but i was short on cash. I think it costed me about $20 and i think i swaped out the old core the mc is easy to pull out make sure you bench bleed it before installing it then bleed the hell out of your break system i took mine to a shope to get power blead but that is just me
good luck

It was pretty easy. Suck the excess brake fluid out of the old reservoir (optional step), unbolt the fluid lines (use "flare nut wrenches"!), unbolt the MC from the booster, bench bleed the MC (fill up the reservoir and pump the piston by hand until you get fluid out the four outlets), bolt the new MC on and hook up the lines. Then it's bleed, bleed, bleed, bleed. I ran through over a quart of fluid just to make sure I had all the bubbles out.
Took a little while, but not hard at all.
