Default 06' Type S Driving Impressions

I just bought one.... ak, I totally let the dealership rob me but I think I got it for 23k, after all the bullshit it was closer to 26.... but w/e. Well Ive had the chance to put about 20 miles on her and I gotta say that this thing doens't feel anything like my GSR. The GSR has a noticeable spike in torque and motor pitch when VTEC engages. With the TypeS, I dont feel or here anything. The car scoots but Im so busy changing gears that I cant tell how fast Im actually accelerating. Honestly, my bolt on GSR feels faster. I wont know until I get some more miles on the new Type S and take it to the track. Anybody else a little dissapointed with the performance after having a DC2?

it doesn't "feel" faster, but it is faster.

the powerband is supposed to be smooth and linear so there is hardly a dip in power as the RPMs climb

your GSR has a "noticeable spike in torque and motor pitch" when VTEC engages because the B-series motors have a dip in power before engaging VTEC...thats why when VTEC engages you feel that "kick"

if its not fast enough for you yet then start modding but a smooth powerband is the path to maximum power

hmm, well thats food for thought. Im looking forward to doing some basic bolt-ons. The RSX feels alot heavier then my GSR but it is still surprising agile. Much to my surprise, when you push it, it will oversteer. I dont know how Honda figured that one out. I know it's probably been asked a million times but how does Acura respond to bolt on modifications. I dont want an exhaust, that's a 10hp sacrifice Im willing to take, but I would like to add a header, CAI, lower stance, and maybe the IMG. The Rsx is growing on me daily although Im having second thoughts about the color. It looks brown at night and that's not cool. I really wanted the Milano Red but tan interiors make me puke.

The K20Z1 in the 05-06 Type-S responds as well as the K20A2 in the 02-04 Type-S does to bolt-ons. CAI obviously being the choice for intake power gains. The only headers that are worth getting are a race header (eliminating the cat) or the JDM ITR 4-2, 2-1 header and downpipe. Hondata has a reflash for the 05-06 Type-S that shows great gains with a CAI and IMG along with a smooth torque curve

I noticed you have a magnesium metallic...I own the same color and I don't have any regrets about the color In my opinion, I think it only looks "brown" if its dusty during the daytime...at night it looks like a dark gray to me, but it definitely has a "grown and sexy" look to it

Yeah as stated above, the VTEC crossover is very smooth. Get an Injen CAI.

I don't really like the cai's but a good intake in my opion are the aem v2s. I just installed one in my friend base model dc5 and it screamed and u can totally feel the difference. As to buying the rsx, I bought my 06 alabaster silver metalic rsx type s for 21k. Its a freaking great deal!

Ive recently purchased a 06 rsx ( milano red), Talked them down to 22k... I originally wanted the Premium White exterior, But settled for the milano red when they told me they were out 30-40 days on the white rsx's... At first i didnt like the tan interior, ( wish it was BLACK).. But now that ive had it for a good 5 months now, The tan color has grown on me...

JunkyardGSR- Wait till you get past the breaking in stage of the motor, And the response should feel a bit better..

Yea, I too have to admit at first I was like, "what the hell?" with the powerband, coming from a B16 with mad bolt-ons. After learning the car I figured that it is a really smoothed out powerband and after recently adding the Injen CAI you can really hear the VTEC kick in. That intake scccreamsss!!! I am very happy with my purchase being a 06 silver type s that I paid a little under 23k for.

Well when I bought mine, I just noticed how nice the midrange was compared to my DA (ls/v). It's a bit too smooth though, I hit the rev limiter on 3rd quite a few times already going onto freeway. I think I will be much happier after I lower it and slap a few bolt-ons for it. The S is for daily driving and my DA is still my baby lol.

FYI: I got mine 06 PWP-S for 24 OTD with 7 miles on it. This was about a month ago. Whoever got theirs for 21 was a freaking steal. Was it a demo model? Just curious cause 21 OTD is really low.

Thats what it's supposed to do!

I went from a bolt on DC2 to a bolt on DC5 and it is a completely different car. Interior has more room and the power is there, just not as brutal. Now that I think about it, a bolt on gsr might be as fast as a stock type-s. Even when my S was stock it felt faster than my gsr, though.

after having driven the car for a while I must say that im getting more and more impressed by it. Even with 4 people in the car it doesn't seem to suffer at all. I know these two words should never be used together, but this honda feels like it has torque. It's never laggy in any gear or any RPM band. I kinda like the linear curve. It's just a real adjustment after the ON/OFF horsepower of a b18C.

EDIT: I just bought a Fujita short-ram intake on Ebay. I can't wait to hear vtec again. Car has 160 miles now, hopefully I can be out of break in before it gets here. Ha!

it depends on what you ran in the 1/4 with the modded GSR

depending on the driver...a stock Type-S is usually anywhere from 14.8 to 15.1 stock, sometimes even 14.7
