Hey ht's. I was tapping about 6k on 5th gear for a minute or two and next thing i know, my temp gauge was very close to the max. marker. Had to slow down immediately. Does that mean that something has failed or is it normal due to the conditions and the amount of time the engine was working so hard?

 

if you were moving then it shouldn't overheat

I'd look into it

not true you car still can overheat even if moving a fewthings to check
1. thermostat (is it time for a new one)
2. fan switch ( same deal)
3. timing.............is it set correctly
4. local temperature and aggressive driving conditions can hurt the temp as well
5. is fan even coming on?

next time you experience this turn the heat on full blast and see if it cools down
good luck.

 

Check your radiator.

80% chance is the problem.

if he hit 6k in 5th that means he was going 100+
I don't think the fan would be a factor at that speed

Also what car is this?

And yeah, I agree with the radiator call. You can have it flushed or just buy a new one

Thanks for the reply guys. Well, it's a hatch with a b18c1, and yeah, i was hitting around 125. I've changed my water pump, etc, before I put the motor in, but i still have my hatch radiator and i did forget to change the thermostat. But I didn't think that it would matter that much, and again, i haven't gone at that speed and condition for that amount of time. The temperature was about 80 degrees and fan does come on. Timing is also correct and I am using a stock ECU. Will change radiator, hoses and thermostat and see what would happen if i get another chance.

Not that doing all that preventive maintenance is bad. But why don't you just flush the radiator first and change the hoses and thermostat before actually buying the radiator? Might save some money.

 

get a koyo or fluidyne while you are at it
