I changed the topic so I wouldn't have to make another post, so if the replies seem irrelevant, it's because I asked a different question earlier.

Do I have to remove the exhuast manifold in order to move along on my trans removal and clutch install? The reason I ask is because the previous owner welded the whole thing and I can't just remove the header.

i took a jack and hold up the motor on the the oil pan with a piece of wood in between.

 

use a floor jack to support it

 

a hydrolic jack

 

Positoin of the jack? Are you sure the oil pan is a safe point?

 

use a piece of ply wood so the weight is trasfered over a large area

 

with a piece of wood between the jack and oil pan you will be fine
that's how i do it

 

just did my clutch on the weekend
we had the car up on a hoist (makes things 10x easier)

we just used a tranny lift to drop the tranny off, then took the tranny off and used the tranny lift again to hold the engine. the single mount holds the engine fine by itself but better be safe then sorry

btw, buy some transaxle seals while your at it. their cheap, and will prevent you from having to fix them later on down the road).

make sure your flywheel isnt warped either. might need some machining depending on why your replacing your clutch.
in my case, my flywheel was fine had a few burns in it. the pads on my clutch disc exploded had to clean out the transmission wiht some brake cleaner.

Yeah, picked up the seals today and will be taking the flywheel in to be machined, no matter what.
