Default Time for a new starter?

Ok i run to the store today in my car, come back home and run inside and then run back out to head to my friends house. When i try to crank up my car, nothin. It wont turn over. So i check all the starter connections, all the grounds, and all the fuses and everything is Ok. I was stumped. I read in very old thread where that happend to someone else and they wacked the solenoid with a hammer and it turned over. Well, i go out and get my dad to wack my starter solenoid with a hammer and it fires right up??wtf Could it be a possible loose connection in the solenoid, or could it had just gotten stuck? This has never ever happened to me or anyone i know.
