this code = P0401
P0401 code thrown
new to me 96 HX threw this code the other day. Runs the same as before. PO told me when I bought the car that he had replaced the O2 sensor about a year ago.
The EGR looks new and the PO didn't return my call to him so don't know for sure. Advanced Auto didn't have a replacement for me to buy.
Per Advanced Auto: the code means that EGR re-circulation is restricted.
anyone have any ideas or advice?
thanks,
John

$3 fix....
same problem as I had with my miata. The channels that funnel the exhaust gas had 'gunked up' and the solution was a spray can of carb cleaner, a wire clothes hanger and a small rag solved the problem.
took off the EGR valve [a bit of a pita..] then doused both channels, some small chunks actually blew out and there was more on the rag as I used the cut wire hanger to force the rag down each channel...
A bit of air blast from my PC can and re-assembly. Took it back to Advanced Auto and they cancelled the CEL and all is well.
Cheap, fast, easy, DIY solution.
