Under Hood Temps..HOTTTT!!
how do u guys cope with those extreme underhood temps even in 70 degree weather after a 20-30 drive.. do any of u run ur air filter outside of the engine bay? it kinda seems illogical to keep the filter in the bay to suck in all that HOT air..
It also makes me want to get a custom hood to help vent all that hot air out of the engine bay for the coming summer..

i guess thats whats an intercooler is for? i always wondered if there would be any benefit from running a cold air intake setup on a turbo.
i remember in the fast and the furious, the first thing he mentioned was the cold air intake, then he followed up with turbo + nos.

Yeah, it sucks burning yourself on your strutbar. I guess really the only way to lower the temps would be a ram air style hood. Just relocate your filter, easier that way.
i once cooked a trout wrapped in aluminum foil on my manifold - 5 minutes per side and voila - i call it drag manifold trout supremo
for other turbo manifold recipes please send me SASE and 5 dollars to me.

if your turbo is clocked so the compressor is facing the ac compressor or where it used to be i'm sure you could make a cai. i don't believe it's possible with the housing facing the traditional tranny side.
that's just the kind of temps turbos put out. you can try to coat the turbo itself and the turbine housing. you can try to wrap other parts or coat them or use a custom heat shield.

funny shiat!
I forget the board members name--the one from Thailand who posts the crazy motor swaps. Anyway, when he posted pics of his car like 8 months ago I noticed what he did for under hood temps. He made spacers where the hood hinges to the car. Basically lifted the back of the hood. Looked kinda cool I think, sort of like the hood was unpopped in reverse?!
Im sure if the rubber wheather stipping was taken out by the cowl that it would be effective as well.
Of course you could always go with the monster style cf or fg hoods, but this is ghetto style at its best

another thing is to fabricate a dump tube for the wastegate that dumps underneath the car if you don't already have one.
the hood is definitely a good idea.

Get the turbo itself jethot coated. I forgot who, but someone makes a shield for the the exhaust housing of the turbo. Heat wrap the downpipe, and have a long dumptube..Also try running a switch for your radiator fan, so you can keep it on all the time while once the car is warmed up. Also use a hondata phenolic spacer. The heat from the head won't be transferred to the intake manifold, the intake manifold transmits lots of heat, so if it's cold the engine bay may be cooler. Insulated radiator hoses are made by a few companies. Also add a few washers to the hood brackets to lift the rear of the hood up a bit. That add's cowl induction. Hope some of those Ideas helped...
I didn't read the thread so if i restated what other people already said sorry..im at work = no time to read.

Whats the point of getting cold air through a cold air setup if you're just going to compress it and heat it up again. Use an i/c thats whats its there for. For after the air is compressed.
uh the point would be to have colder air after the turbo. the colder the air is that goes in the colder the is air that comes out. not saying the turbo cools it but the outlet temps would be cooler with colder inlet air.
to help clarify.. I do have a 12 row Intercooler out front.. wish i had a pic to show.. maybe this weekend ..looks like it came from the factory stock.. man I love FMIC's...
