Default How hard to rev, not to blow the motor?

How hard should I rev a B20Z block, mated to a JDM B16A head. The block and head are stock? I heard that the powerband starts to fall off a little after 7 grand?

Uh remember that if you have the b16 head *stock* you might not want to rev past 8k due to that whole floating valve thingy!

Who cares about what the head can handle. The block should not be able to handle anything over 7000 to 7500. Stock

if you have to ask how hard to rev the moter ..you come of to me as being poorly educated in mechanics and the way an engine works... reving the b16 moter to 8000 rpms is going to cause more abuse than driving normally of course...but with any moter theres no gaurentee you can rev the sucker to X rpm's and get away with it all day long ...every moter regardless of type or manufacturer has its own break point ....too many variables...so i think you should rev it to 8000 rpm's before you shift,but when i say that i have absolutely no interest whether your car is going to be drivable in a few months ...

nah. What about the people that do b16 swaps and use the ITR or CTR valve trains that rev to 9k and are just fine?

this guy is talking about B20's - i dont think you need to rev' a b20 that high to get into its powerband. Just Remember

RPM = Ruins Peoples Motors

You're very right.. I didn't pay attention to the fact that he would have a b20 block with b16 head.. my bad. Yup, with the b20 block he won't need 8.5k to have fun!

But on the comment about..
"RPM = ruin people's motors" If you're getting a higher performance motor for higher performance applications than the thought of the engine lasting 300k isn't exactly a valid one. But if you just bought a civic or whatever for daily driving and extended use then it isn't best to drive around at 7k all day long.

8.5k on a built b20 block would be fun.
