Default Fully Built block on stock b16 head?

Im building my bottom end. Its darton sleeved, 9.1 cp pistons, eagle rods, arp head studs n main studs, acl bearings, etc. Im aiming for like 400-500. I have a stock jdm b16 head with itr cams. Will it be ok to run a stock head on the block? n to make power like that? Im keeping the rev limit at 8200.

I pulled 607whp on a stock port B16 head. Upgraded cams and valvetrain of course.

Save your money and do the head also. Because with a sleeved block there is no point in stopping at400-500. A stock block with poisons and rods can do that. Spend the extra money and do springs and retainers make power and rev it the way it wants and needs to be revved to make power reliably.

Get valvetrain, please. Dropped valve can and will destroy a 'fully built' short block.

I'm running a stock B16 head with CTR in & ITR ex cams, ITR in & ex dual valve springs with Skunk2 titanium retainers. Has worked out great so far. I only rev to 8300-8400, but I am running a B20 block (fully built). Put down 520whp pretty easily.

It's to my understanding that you most definitely want to upgrade your valve springs/retainers.

The short answer is, yes you can do it. I made 410 on built GSR block with the exception of it being sleeved and a bone stock head. Is it safe? NO!!! Like DC4KiD said "Dropped valve can and will destroy a 'fully built' short block". Its really all for saftey reasons you upgrade your valvetrain. Remember you do have a pretty old head now
