Default expletive Thieves

So last night I bought a navigation system that was worth more than $4000. It was a 7" in-dash screen, the brain, navigation, and a tv tuner. I bought it off some guy on Craigslist and it was a straight-up cash deal. Then we decided to go to Philly to chill, and my girlfriend's car got broken into. We got the license plate and they stole her headunit, cds, and my box with all my new **** in it. A police report was filed and yea we know how that goes. So my question is, what do I do? I had my insurance go to full coverage on Saturday because my car might have came in, but it didn't. Do we try to go through my insurance company or hers? Honestly, will I be able to get anything back like compensation? I do not have any receipts because it was bought used. What do I do? I ******* hate thieves and I hope that they all die. I am so pissed. Please help everyone.

If you don't have any documentation of the items, I highly doubt you are going to get anything back. If they took your word that you had such items, I would hate to see what our rates would be b/c people would be doing that all the time.

I talked to the guy that I bought the stuff from and we are writing up a buy of sale. I hope this helps for something.

I would find a good cop who likes to help people (for $100) and have him run the tags to give you an address.

Then you can sort it out with them...

Never hurts to ask.

^^^^Yea they broke into an off-duty cop's truck, so he ran the tag before the Philly police came, and he gave me the address. We will be visiting this man very shortly. I am just going to wait a little to see if the Philly police do anything.

Nice. At least you have a good chance of the guy(s) getting caught. If they don't, then you have a good chance of taking out some aggression.

just be careful when you do decide to pay that thief a visit....for all you know the plates you scanned might have been stolen as well.

Okay so you put all that stuff in her car? If that is the case you will have to go through her insurance whether it is yours or not.

Now remember is you are going to want the $4000 back make sure the vehicle it is in is worth more than that otherwise they will total the vehicle. I have totalled numerous cars when I worked claims because people but stereos in there cars that are worth more than the car and it is cheaper for the insurance company to total the car. Most insurance companies have riders/stated value to put on these types of items. If your insurance doesn't know about it they may just give you the money for the OEM replacement radio.

This is the exact reason anyone should speak with there agent before they do something like this.

Most likely that stuff will not be covered by her auto insurance. It was not bolted into the car. Those items would be considered "personal property" and thus by definition not covered by auto insurance. They would be covered under your homeowners (or parents if you live at home) or renters insurance as property off premisis. There is a limit of 10% of you personal property limit for this coverage on most policies so I hope that you have $40,000 personal property limit.

You are definately going to need the bill of sale and police report. Good luck.

Yea, if the cops don't do anything let insurance pay for it then go steal it back. If you need backup, let me know. I hate thieves...
