Anyone have a idea what is wrong my R?
It started back in Nov. a week after I had my V-AFC installed. I started throwing misfire codes and misc. codes as well. They have done everything from changing my spark plugs, gas cap, idle control valve, unplugging my ecu for 10 minutes, and some other stuff I'm sure. Now.....I'm still having this problem and now my car is out of warrenty. I had the V-AFC taken out (thinking it was the cause of the problem) last week and had the code cleared thinking it would be fixed. WRONG AGAIN! After aobut 30 minutes of driving it came back on agian.
Yesterday, I took my car to the dealer and they checked and cleared the code. Sure enough, I have a misfire in #3 and #4 cylinders and some other thing I didn't even know that was on my car showed up on the list of codes as well. Now they are telling me since my car is out of warrenty the won't fix it. They want to do a compression test and a leak down test to see what if they can find anything wrong. For over $100. Why didn't they do this 4 months ago? Am I in the wrong to be expecting my car to be fixed under warrenty when I have been having this problem for a few months now and it has never been fixed? I called the customer care line today and told them my situation. I guess I'll hear something in a few days.
Anyone have this problem with misfires?
Thanks! Corey

Damn that sucks. SHOULD they fix your ongoing problem as if the car was still under warranty? Yes, they should. But as usual they are being the ****** that they are. This is how they treat customers.. They should learn how to run their business more efficiently and improve their customer satisfaction skills.. This is an ongoing problem that they have yet to figure out. You shouldn't be penalized for it.. Sorry I don't know a FUGIN thing about the technical nature of your problem. Good luck man.

you can try calling headquarters and complain, but then they may say that you voided the warranty by putting the VAFC in.
Sorry I don't know what could be causing that.

Whatever you do, do NOT tell tehm you put in the VAFC!!!! THEY WILL VOID WARRANTY!!!! they did it to one of my friends. those Jackasses! but as for your problem I would keep yelling and bitchen until you get it fixed. when they gave me crap for a problem with my car I just told them " I did not buy a 20k + car just so it can break and if they did'nt work something out they can have it and to expect a call from my lawyer!" I dunno worked 4 me though
I called customer care yesterday and they are going to give me a call back sometime this week. Anybody have any other ideas what is cuasing my car to misfire in #3-#4 cylinders?
The V-AFC is taken out and is not being put back in my car. I sold it the other day. So that can eliminate the V-AFC being the problem. They replaced the plugs a couple months ago under warrnety thinking that would fix it, but it didn't.

Did you miss a shift at any time? Slightly kissed valves can cause a misfire. Also might want to take a look at your fuel. Saw a Type-R with bad fuel once. Car ran like sheeet. Somebody did the owner by putting some kind of soap in the fuel tank; it took a while to find that one.
For starters I would change the cap & rotor, wires, and plugs. If I was at home I would let you use mine since I have the external ignition. If this doesn't work you have a few more options to go after
No, I didn't miss a shift. I've done that once already back in June and had to get the valves replaced. Hell, I'm not sure what the problem is.
Vonte': What's up bra? You liking it over in Korea? I still think you need to ship the keys to your turbo R and let me start it every now and then.
I think I'm just going to wait to see what the dealer says about it and then go from there. If it's not going to be covered, I'll just take it to Kaos and have them do a compression and leak down test on it. If it is something interal, I think the R is going to be down for a long while cause I'm not dumping any more $ into a car for a while. BTW, my Civic should be done in about two weeks. I'm still waiting on some parts to come in. The exhaust is also taking forever to get here. Should be nice when it's time to roll out.

poor quality aftermarket plug wires??? I have seen a lot of them where the wires do not have a solid connection to the plugs, you can tell if the ceramic is scorched a bit around the wire boot.
Why does everyone bash dealers when they void the warranty? I understand some can be ****** when there is a genuine problem with the car. But when you've modified it (especially anything to do with fuel and ignition), why do you expect the dealership to fix your problem? Why don't you take it back to the shop that installed the VAFC? Dealer techs have certain diagnostic procedures that elimintate problems one at a time. Throw in variables like aftermarket parts, then what do you expect them to do, tune your car for you? Not hating here but I'm a tech at a dealership and I've been left high and dry and have had to solve my own problems with my car, on my time, that may have been caused by aftermarket parts. I don't get paid to decipher what's wrong with product x when it isn't made by Honda.
I really hope you find what's wrong with you car...

Well, I have the stock wires and the dealer replaced my plugs a few months ago thinking it would fix the problem, but it didn't.
About me bashing the dealer. I'm not bashing the dealer at all. The thing is, everytime the car went in for warrenty they tried to fix it everytime with the V-AFC in it and never said a word about it. Never one time did they say it was my problem. I took the V-AFC ot thinking it could be the problem and it still got a CEL.
Now that is out of warrenty ans STILL is not fixed they are telling me they won't fix it because it's a Type-R and when Type-R's are out of warrenty, they are out of warrenty. Now they want to charge me over $100 to do a compression test and leak down test when they should have done it a long time ago.

Why does the dealer consider it out of warranty? Mileage? If they ignored the VAFC before then I guess they thought it wasn't causing the problem, and maybe it actually isn't. A'pexi is pretty reputable that way. But if the car is out of warranty due to mileage or age, then that's what the dealer is hiding behind. But they should not be charging youe because it is a recurring problem from before the warranty expired.
As for your car, what modifications (in detail) have you done specifically to fuel and electronics casue it sounds like something is waaay off.

hey corey, I would be more than happy to get together and go down to the acura dealer with some more ITR's and tell them if they try to screw you, they will lose every peice of ITR buisness in the greater Louisville area. I hope you get the responce you want from customer service
bent valve. Did the cap, rotor, spark plug, wire thing.
Compression test will tell you. Stop buying other things and do compression check.

If you've contacted Acura's Customer Care, then you're headed down the right path IMO. I was actually just at my dealer the other day regarding a problem my car was in for under warranty which still isn't fixed. The service writer said, I can't guarantee they'll fix it now that you're car is out of warranty, but we've never had Acura not pick up the bill for a problem that was documented.
I cancelled my appt and haven't rescheduled yet, but based on the fact that the problem existed before and they never corrected it, they IMO are obligated to fix it or at least diagnose what's wrong.

how many miles are on your car? it seems they should cover the repair if it was started while under warrenty. it's their problem of not fixing it right in the first place. causes for a misfire... compression testers are reasonable and it would be helpful to find where the cause is.. when does the code return after it's cleared? is there drop in rpm if u ground #3 or #4 spark plug wire? what other codes are being set? what's acura doing about this?
Well, Customer Care called me yesterday and told me that it was not going to be covered.
They used the excuse that since they helped me out when I bent the valves (called it a courtesy fix) they felt like it wasn't their problem anymore. The girl did tell me though that I could take it up with the dealer and try to get them to pay for it. So I called the dealer and said something about it to them and one of the guys said some big wig is coming in this week and when he gets here I should talk to him.
The thing is, I have been really patient (for 4 months now) and I think being patient hurt me in the long run. I feel like all they did was trial and error and dickd me around for this amount of time. They never found the reason why my car is misfiring, just tried to fix the misfire. Now that it is out of warrenty, they want to charge me over $100 to to do these tests. I'm not having that, but they told me if they were going to fix it, they would have to do it themselves. I just couldn't go to a shop or do it myself and tell them what I found. If I have to pay out of my pocket, I will fix it and then sell it. I'm tired of this ****.

damn, That sucks. Just let me know if I can help in any way, you have my number. I would think since this problem has been ongoing and started when the car was under warrenty that they would cover it as such. Just goes to show you that everyones out for the almighty dollar. Just let me know.
did you have all the settings set on the vafc before using it. i know of a few people that had misfire and stalling problems because they didn't set the vafc. it says int he directions to make sure to do this.
i seriously hate dealers. they always try to dick people on warranty jobs. i'm feeling for you as you have an almost new itr.
however, a piggyback computer like the vafc will void a warranty. you used it while under warranty when your problems started. i don't see how you can fault the dealer for your own problems.
again, not trying to sound like an *** here but it seems like a lot of people try to take advantage of warranty work when it's been voided. just my 2 cents.
