Assistance setting up a decent system!
i am not that hardcore into competition audio or anything, i just want a pretty good sound sound system, like a stock bmw system or something comparable. i just ordered the kenwood self powered dual subs (ksc-sw1), and i plan to put those under my seat. (02 civic si)
as for the head unit, i am caught between the alpine cda-9857 and the cda-9856. i mean, i would rather save some money if its only a small difference. also, i chose alpine because i think they are a quality deck and i like the look of them. the 9857 is around my price range max. if you could suggest other quality decks then yeah i can check those out, i need ipod connectivity.
should i get something older like the 9835 because it puts out more watts rms (27) while the 9857 is only 18? which have motorized faces?
now, should i get some comps as well? if i get that, should i run all new wiring throughout the car? do i need an amp for this as well?
does walmart sell the deck install wires for our car? which years wiring adapter for hondas will work? what about the plastic dash kit, do they have that? would you choose a black one or a matching silver one? anyone got some pics theyd like to share here?
thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

Here are the differences that I saw, the items under the model number will be something the other doesnt have
CDA-9857:
1. Direct search function for the iPod
2. Steering Wheel Remote Ready
3. Wireless Remote Control Included
CDA-9856:
1. BBE Processor
2. BBE® Modes: On(1, 2, 3)/Off
So for iPod connectivity id go with the CDA-9857

If you get components, then you will need to get an amp because the crossovers take a lot of power to make the speakers sound t their full potential. If you get an external amp also, the internal amp wattage doenst really matter.
if i were you i would run new speaker wire. the thin factory wire is too small and will have more resistance than thin wire

Walmart does have the dash kits but i dont think they have the silver ones...but they should have the black one for your car. they also have the factory wire harness converters but they are just bare wires at the other end, so u will have to solder (or use buttend connectors
) the wires together to the plug that comes with ur cd player that plugs into ur cd player.

thank you so much for your timely response! i really appreciate your time and effort! sickness! alright i have a few more questions...
what other Alpine decks would you all recommend with iPod connectivity? do either the 9856 or 9857 have motorized faces? what are the swingface and glidetouch features?
steering wheel remote ready means it hooks up if you already have one, right? not one that you can attach to your current steering wheel.
what are the advantages of the BBE processor and what do the modes change?
arent all harness adapters bare wire on the other end? from the smiley you used, i derive that butt conn. are not that good of a choice? they are easy, but i can solder if its worth it.
thanks again!

Both of those models seem to have the motorized faceplate that flips down to put the cd in. from what i read, the SwingFace is the faceplate that swings in and out to put the cd in(the motorized faceplate that ur wanting i assume). glide touch is that long bar at the bottom of the cd player on this pic shown. i read a few things and ppl say they dont like it more than they like an actual button.

I saw on crutchfield that its just the stearing wheel ready, meaning u can add the alpine acessory wheel remote, for hondas Alpine makes it only for the Odyssey and the s2000. other companies may make other interfaces for the foactry controls
about the BBE, im not sure exactly what that is, but i think its something about that it changes the sound in the cd player that works best with a type of setup. i have mine set on "3" but mine goes up to 4...but idk if thats what it is.

iv learned that u should solder in every place possible. with solder, u know 100% that its a guraanteed connection. i remember using butend connectors that sometimes they seem like a tight connection but then they just slip out of there. also thres a chance with connectors that it wont make a 100% good connection so there could be voltage drops across that conenctor
circuit city(idk about best but if they have them) has a converter that converts the factory plug into a 2x9 box "male" plug, then they sell a harness that converts the cd players plug into the "female" part of tht 2x9 plug so it jut plugs in. the buttend connectors could be used but, i like to know that nothing will go wrong or come apart when i solder my wires.

If you go older the ipod interface is more expensive.
