Default What hose is this?

I have a bit of a leak here and wanted to know what hose this is. Also could anyone tell me if this is a regular maintenance issue or something worse?

This is right below the Distributor

So do you know if that's a normal thing to have oil come out of there? I mean should there be oil behind this hose¿ What is this heating¿ This thing is hot as it is!

By the way, it's a 97SH with 150,000kms on her. Completely stock.

hmm, well that's not good news. I don't burn any white or grayish smoke. Compression is great in all 4 cylinders (about 210) and vtec seems to have no problems, it kicks in fine. Not sure if the vtec thing would show any symptoms from a leak like this but thought I would just mention that. There's also no oil around the cap itself, could it still be the distributor? Is there any sort of tests I could get done on the motor to find out what this is?

Thanks for all your help. Please, more suggestions.

I want to get this fixed if there is not supposed to have oil in that area.

it doesn't look too bad.

It's most likely either the Vtec Solenoid, Distributor O ring, Cam seal or valve cover gasket. If you clean the area really well you can trace the area it's coming from.

I'll clean that out and see exactly where it's coming from. I think it's coming straight out of that "heater hose" and then drips down onto the tranny. I've already replaced the valve cover gasket and plug seals. The cam seals were part of the valve cover gasket. I also used a sealer with the valve cover gasket so I don't think its that. But I'll clean it up and then see what happens.

Any more suggestions anyone¿ Thanks again!

that's coolant, it's not coming from there. If it was your motor would not be running.

Sounds like the distributor O ring if its right above.

Well then I hope it's not coming from that hose!

I just finished cleaning around there, tougher than I thought, I don't have tiny hands Now that you mention this, I don't have any oil in my coolant so if that hose is the heater hose then it much be dripping onto it from above. Thanks for the input guys!

I guess the only way to find out if it's the distributor O ring is to take the distributor off?

just mark the distributor position before you take it off.

I didn't think you had to do that with our cars. You mean point it to piston #1 or whatever? Ill do that as soon as I can. Ill keep you all updated.

Thanks again!

If you are talking about the hose right below with the clamp on it that is a radiator hose if you follow it it should lead to the bottom of you radiator. It is no problem replacing this hose.

Thanks but we got that figured out. What I really need to know is where the oil is coming out of. It better not be that hose or im screwed. I actually found that its not coming from that hose as my rad would be full of oil and its not. This hose is right below the distributor and we think its an O ring that's broken causing oil to leak on that hose. Ive cleaned the area out already so well see where this crap is coming from.

if its a tiny leak I wouldnt worry about it things leak after time. As long as its not gushing out oil or seeping, I would leave it alone it could be oil you spilled refilling your engine and all that mess. If it isnt causeing any problems and theres just a small tiny leak, you be best just to leave it alone. Cause removing the distributor and stuff could get you in trouble. Its probably a valve cover leak more than anything if you honestly want to know. Where the humps are in the valve cover for the Cams it comes together like this kinda _()_ it will easily leak.
