just finished building my motor, the ****** head to block is leakin oil mad crazy, its because the chilton manual gives the wrong torque spec sequencee (a non criss cross pattern)
So i put 80 miles on the HG, can i reuse it if i spray it with copper, or do you thing retorquing the head would work without even lifting the head fromt he block??
If i reuse it can i torque it more than 72ftlbs to ensure a better seal I'm using ARP HEADSTUDS
Thanks
Michael

how do you retorque them? breakl em all loose? drain coolant and oil first? might as well take HG off?

no, just pull the cams and retorque them. You don't have to drain the coolant or oil. Just loosen the timing belt tensioner, pull the cams, re-tighten in correct sequence.

has this ever happend to you? if i do take the head off to clean the surfaces u think the HG will be ok to use again? when i retorque it do u think it will still leak oil with the oil thats already sandwiched between the head and block now?

I'm thinking that maybe your bolts stretched a little bit because your motor heatcycles (motor heats up, expands, then shrinks).
When I said retorque them, I meant for you NOT to pull the headgasket. Just pull the cams, and set your torque wrench, and just redo what you did before... they are probably a little bit loose.

Well... I have AEBS, and my friend uses ARPs and we both had to retorque them. It is common practice to retorque headstuds after 500 miles.
Retorqueing does not necessarily mean you have to pull the head, just pull the cams, and tighten them to spec...
If problems persists... then you have other issues.

People that I know have retorqued headstuds after roughly 500 or after a few heatcycles to be on the safe side.
If you're having issues, like you mentioned you did, then it would be a good idea to retorque them, period.
Did you resurface the block & head? or atleast check for straightness?

how many miles have you put on the motor? you said you followed chilton's torque settings for your arp head studs (this would be a bad idea)?
if your leaking oil, i would pull the head and at least brake clean the block, gasket, and head surfaces. it's not a good idea to have oil all over between the block and head. is the felpro a composite or mls gasket? if it is composite, i would think twice about reusing. if it is mls, i have reused low mileage head gaskets on many makes and models with no problems.
let me know if you need a mls b16 head gasket. i have a brand new oem one. i also have new block to head dowels for it i will throw in.
