Default ls/vtec..vs. gsr

so how good is a ls/v?...i know if tuned right you can get some good power out of it, but what if an ls/v has for example stage 2 camshafts, itr pistons, and h/i/e and same with the gsr?...which can be faster?

i prefer lsv but to each his own.
i think that with the same mods the lsv would still yield higher numbers.

lol has the gsr will hp but one thing that the b18c1 cannot make is massive torque. dude ls's are known for makin torque so alls u gata do is take the torquy bottum end and slap a good breathing vtak head and you got yourself a monster. b20/vteck get my vote

i prefer the GSR because of the compression you can make with the p72 head and also because of the 87.2 stroke as opposed to the 89. but to each his own

I have a 94 integra with an ls/vtec. My cars pretty built and and runs low 14's and is capable of high 13's with drag radials. ls/vtecs are alot better...way better built the right way.

the ls/vtec is definately a stronger motor with more grunt and potential...but i wouldnt say that its better built than a factory GSR...(please dont misconstrue this for unreliability, because im not saying that)

you can slap an LS crank and rods in a GSR block and bam, you have a torquey sleeper motor

you can get power out of either motor, it depends on your goals, if you want a drag syle motor go with the lsvtec, but if you want an autocross syle motor go with the gsr for safe high rpm revving

I have had both motors, if you are just looking for a dependable daily drive the gsr is the way to go

your still pushing it though, i would rather stick with the GSR crank and use compression to make up the torque

They dont have much more torque than a gsr, ls-v are faster though.

i could pull up the dynos that would show otherwise

longer stroke...how can you believe it wont make more torque?

He said "MUCH more torque". To me, driving a car that has 128 torque or 132 torque is not that big of a difference. Better torque at low and midrange means (almost) nothing to someone who races Hondas.

My only 2 close experiences with LS VTEC were a friend who had a B20B in an EG hatch and finally got the B16A head, eagle rods, and whole conversion. To cut the story short, he never could get vtec to engage and would feel no power after the first 1 or 2 gears. The second experience was racing a stripped EG hatch with a "fully built" LS VTEC who was known as the fastest Honda in a small city. I raced him with my "pig" DC chassis (turboed) when my MSD ignition was not allowing me to shift past 7000 rpms. The races were close, but when each car had only 1 driver, I always won. Although it was impressive for NA in probably a 2000 lb chassis, he was probably at his NA max whp, other than getting ITBs and sacrificing streetability.
