Default Boosting an ls or gsr.

I want to turbo either a gsr or an ls. The Ls has lower compression, and the gsr has vtec. How does turbo respond to the overlap in the vtec system? I just want pure hp with as little as possible strain on the motor. Your opinions?

I did, but couldn't seem to find any overlap issues. So maybe it isnt one?

its fine, gsr head out flows the ls and you will see that a gsr and ls on the same setup, the gsr will out perform the LS.

its really up to you

many, many topics on Turbo & VTEC, like he said.

GSR Rods are beefier, Saw that today.
And GSR has higher Compression......better IMO

ls will handle more boost, But its a toss up, allot of folks are making really good hp numbers on the ls with a standalone.

on an identical setup, the GSR would net out more hp, but how realistic is that? not many people run the identical setup. both are great candidates for turbo.

I say if you have the money obviously go gsr. My ls swap was only $1500 so that was a big deciding factor.

overlap is an issue.. ur almost "wasting" boost.. air goes in comes right out with overlap.. yes it still makes power.. just a thought

Im looking for 275 or so in the end. I would be happy with 240 whp. I really don't have any psi numbers in mind. Safety is the key in my case. Two conflicting answers for the overlap, yes and no. Anyone have proof, dyno charts or somethin?

If your hp goal is that low a gsr on 7psi would be around 240whp if tuned right! I should be making around 400whp at 20psi on a built b18c with EMS!

the overlap thing on a GSR isn't too much of an issue, it's not so aggressive that it causes any problems. both motors can make the power you want, no problem. the gsr will make it faster, sooner, and more efficiently...but if cost is a part of the decision, then you can count on the LS making what you are looking for...otherwise, get the GSR

I would say that's pretty close.. except that fact that the b18c1 motor has a much higher compression ratio.. and that will eventually lead to problems on a stock motor... on a b18b however compression ratio is already good.. as the man says "safety is the key" I will bet my money on that a b18b with 7 psi will outlast a b18c anyday... as far as how much will a b18b produce with 7 psi.. i would say pretty close to the b18c cause u're utilizing the boost better then the b18c will.. and yes the b18c does have a much higher base power rating..

i will agree with this man as well.. so why spend the extra grand if ur gonna be just as fast??.. furthermore.. I know you wont stop ur project there.. eventually you'll need a rebuild and guess wat.. you'll have to lower ur compression and that goes the exact oppersite of a vtec motor.. and you might get turbo cams.. again the oppersite direction..

This dyno is a LS at 12psi, Rev-hard turbo kit, 550cc injectors, and hondata.

if i were choosing between a ls and gsr for a swap into a civic, i'd choose the ls because you'd be spending less money per horsepower (and torque).
