My clutch pedal got stuck to the floor at the bottom of my street. I couldnt get the car into gear while it was running so i had to leave it there. It will go into gear with it off though. I can pull the clutch back up, but once i depress it again it just stays on the floor. Anybody know what the problem may be?

 

its your clutch master cylinder... change it out... its about 100 dollars and easy and quick fix

 

Cool, thanks. I had also been noticing that the clutch pedal was squeaky. Would that have anything to do with this problem?

 

how does it have to be the master cylinder...is could be the slave or even worse this happened in my eclipse that i had the clutch pedal itself was stripped out and would stick and no depress

 

slave-cylinder pop off the clutcharm? maybe it needs to be bled.

 

When i come to think of it, the clutch has been doing this intermittently for the past week or so but it hasnt stayed stuck to the floor the other times it happened. I just shrugged it off when i thought i didnt feel the clutch pedal release while changing gears. It only stuck for a second or so the other times it did it.

 

its neads bleeding, or low on fluid. other than replace it

 

The resivoir where the clutch fluid goes was bone dry. So i topped that off and started pumping the clutch and couldnt get it to pressurize. I will try bleeding it tomorrow because it is dark out right now.

Any other opinions are welcome.

 

you need to loosen the bolt on the slave cylinder, and bleed it from there.

 

As mentioned its either low on fluid or needs to be bled... if its low though it would have had to have gone somewhere so you probably would have a leak. Some common places of leaks are around the slave cylinder and the clutch master cylinder. Dont just shotgun it and replace parts to fix it... diagnose.

 

Is the clutch fluid resivoir supposed to be full? And i can't see any leaks anywhere.

Yeah it should be pretty close to the top... Brake fluid has a weird texture and feel. I would just try and feel around for it next to your CMC and your slave cylinder, pump the clutch a bit and get the fluid moving and maybe something will turn up to give you a better idea what might be leaking.

 

look at your carpet by the clutch pedal...feel around there, if it is wet, you need to change the clutch master cylinder...I agree with the first guy, "soontobeboost." that will save you alot of time...so check the floor first and also under the master cylinder itself...

 

Looks like the slave cylinder is leaking. I noticed this morning when i went out to bleed the clutch that there was a few drops directly below the slave cylinder. The when i opened the bleeder only a few drops came out of the bleeder and a lot came out of the slave cylinder where the leak is. I couldnt get the clutch to work.

I guess i just need a new slave cylinder. Is it a good idea to replace the master cylinder at the same time?

Is the slave and master cylinder for the ls and gsr interchangeable?

I replaced and bled the slave cylinder today and the clutch now works perfect . That is the first time i did any work on cars other then changing oil, and you get a lot more satisfaction out of doing it yourself rather then taking it into a mechanic. Not to mention all the money i saved .

Exactly!!! All you other people could learn a thing or two from this guy. Thats why im going to school for it. Nice work
