Default DA question

whats up guys. Ok Some van hit my 91 ls 2dr (I am ma dto say the least), and it's a complete write off. I am looking to stick with the second gen, as i was very happy with my teg. I am looking and this person is selling a
blue in color, 215km, recently installed YS1 GSR tranny with new clutch..New balljoints, engine mount, etc
My question is, ys1 gsr tranny, is there any advantage to having this with a non gsr engine? Because if there is no advantage i don’t want to pay the money, I am sure that will be a selling factor on his end.
oh 215 km = 133594.806 MIles. He is asking around 1500 , that’s around 1350 US.

Thanks....

with the ys1 tranny, you'll just short gear ratios. faster 1/4 times. but the down fall of it would be if you drive on the freeway a lot, because you'll be reving pretty high just going speed limit.

for that price i think that a deal, because i picked up my 90 gs for 1000 with 200k on it and everyone told me that was a deal.

Ok please forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but if read what you said correctly, does that mean I will be revving to the same red line as the gsr would, or for that matter revving the same as a gsr period? If so, does that mean I would be able to bring it to 7500 rmp before i red line, or whatever it is for a gsr to redline? Or should I still only bring it up to 5500 rpm for max power since it is still the ls engine I can see why you say it would not be ideal for freeway driving. That’s got to be loud.

Thnx

What i think hes trying to say is that when you shift.... the rpms stay close together.

The disadvantage is that on highway speed .... your rpms will be at a higher rate then on a LS tranny. LS transmissions have long gears.

no the redline is controlled by the ecu.

Ok. In my old ls when I was driving at 100kph, the revs would be at 3000(approx), so what am I looking at now with the gsr in her. And now that it will be higher, I guess that means more gas consumption?

yes it has its advantages(quicker accel, stronger powerband, better torque multipliers) and its disadvantages(higher revs at highway, slight increase in engine wear if the engine is abused and not maintained well).

i had a b16 tranny on a 93 b18a1 and it was fine i just could cruise on the interstae at 85 any more i had to back down to about 75.

exactly.

and yes you will see a increse in gas consumption due to the higher RPMS.

as for appx. speed. in 5th gear you would be doing about 65mph at or a tad over 4000rpms. so on freeway/highway speeds its nerve reckning. but for street driving..... its like having vtec....( so i have been told by passangers)

don't worry about not knowing to much, that's why you're on here asking. everyone starts somewhere.

but with the redline, it's still a ls motor so i wouldn't advise you to go that high. if load is all you're worried about, you must be a baller to afford those gas prices... j/k. you could just go out and get a rsr xmag and it'll shut you're car up

The tranny has shorter gear ratio's

This means, with your old tranny, in 5th gear, at 70MPH your at say 3K rpm.

With this new tranny, in 5th gear, at 70MPH your at almost 5K rpm.

This means you go thru the gears faster. Means more acceleration but at the cost of gas

Make sure its the short geard ys1 and not the ls long geard ys1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DA GSR didnt come with ys1???, the 4dr db1's came with ys1, and there long gear

Thnx guys. I prob wont pick it up. I am by no means a baller, and that gas biz would kill me. I would however be willing to sacrifice the whole gass and high revving issue had there been a gsr motor to go along with the tranny. But all is well, ill keep on the hunt for my next DA.

Let me ask you guys this, just pretend it was an option, or same price, the ls tranny and this ys1 tranny (just go along), what would you chose? mind you it has to be with my scenario, ls engine. Would you pick the gsr tranny? or say no thanks and stick with the ls tranny.

Thnx

umm kinda misinformed there at 70 he'd be more around the area of 3800 rpms, and the comment about the gas...on hondas there gas usage isnt determined by the rpm, but more with the throttle position. stomping the gas to the floor at 2000rpms in 5th will use more gas that holding the throttle normal at 3500rpms in 5th.
