Mini-Me hesitates
Ok I finally sorted out my mini-me, it needed a new dizzy, so now it's running. After I started driving it, I realized the speedometer isn't working, and it turned out the end of the cable broke off inside the gear on the tranny. I have a new one in there, but I didn't realize it was broken until after I installed the new cable, so it's just kinda hanging off the firewall... no speedo, no VTEC. The CEL for VSS won't come on right away, I have to drive a little before it does.
Anyway, I know I need to fix that, but the real problem is the way it's running. At half to full throttle, under load, only in low (2-3.5k) RPM, there is a stuttering. It feels like a misfire, sometimes it's once or twice, other times I have to change gears because the car is shaking. Above 4k it pulls strong like it should. Does the VSS have anything to do with this? I set the timing with a light, at 12 degrees BTDC, I want to be a little conservative because of the high compression. My cam timing is about 4 degrees retarded, I did that so the dizzy would sit in the middle and I could adjust it over more of a range from 14BTDC.
Also, my idle is around 1500RPM, when it's warmed up, but it sounds a lot quieter than I think 1500RPM should sound. I was thinking the tach might not be accurate with the new dizzy, could that be? It seems capable of revving beyond 7400, and the ECU is virgin.
My setup is:
A6 block
PM7 pistons and rods
Y8 head
Y8 timing belt
Z6 headgasket
AEM Tru-Time cam gear
New Y8 dizzy
Jackson Racing (made by Magnecor I believe) plug wires
Denso plugs gapped to 0.035"
Z6 intake manifold
AEM EM1 Cold Air intake
DC 4-2-1 ceramic header
ACT streetlite flywheel
bypassed FITV
OBD1 converted running on a P28
my stock CRX Si tranny (1990)
Head never milled, block never decked, virgin ECU.
