Failed smog at the ref... can anyone help
Failed smog at the ref...can anyone help
Here is my setup
95 B18B (everything stock) in my 94 civic with recent oil change, new belts, and tune up
The B pipe and muffler are OE civic (94 DX), engine has about 200k but the cat has about 62K
failed due to high NOx

The cat has about 62k on it so it should be good. Before I installed this cat I also had high HC and CO. Now with this cat the only thing still high is the NOx. My engine does not have an EGR. The engine has about 200k on it so I plan to take the head and intake manifold off and clean it out…hopefully cleaning out the carbon build up will help.
Any other advise???

if you have a small local airport go to the general aviation and buy a few gallons of aviation gas its 100 oct (it will be around $6 a gal). it is leaded and could damage the O2 sensor in pure form. cut it half and half( no more than 2 gal of ava gas) with high octane pump gas. Or just buy high octane race gas if you have a place that it is avil. It tends to burn cleaner and might just get you over the hump.
looks like you are running lean. change out the fuel filter and do a top end cleaner on the motor. and if i were you just get a new cat anyways so you can pass. i had the same problem and thats what i did. and set your timg more retard, creates less NOx. when i took mine there, i set my timing at 15degress BTDC
and it looks like you went to the evergreen site. the dood there is a dick. i like going to the wyotech referee, the guy there is hella coo. just let me know if you need some help to pass, im local
yeah, high oxides of nitrogen are cause by high temps in the combustion chamber....check your ignition timing, do the top end cleaner like suggested, and run slightly higher fuel if possible
