to rebuild the turbo or not ?
I need a few tips... I have a single cam with a full greddy 15g kit... the thing is, it smokes up badly when I smash wide open throttle... and I'm sick of it... I don't wanna run on it too much longer cuz I'm afraid of what the consequences might be... do u guys think its worth it rebuilding the turbo or should I move onto a gt28rs and just worry about buying another manifold and wastegate whichll cost somewhere around the 1200 range versus the rebuild which will cost around 300... I know it has more potential than the greddy but money is an issue and as far as my goals on the setup... not lookin to exceed 200 whp... all I care for is mainly reliability and a quick spool... also, what are the goods and bads about a rebuild... what do u guys recommend I shall do... I'm somewhat confused on what to do... I hope I explained everything right
Mine's a different setup, but if you want a good turbo for a good deal, I say rebuild.
My brother had a Turbonetics T3/T04E and it wasn't spinning right, so I brought it in to get rebuilt. I spent $400 and the thing looks new. I had the builder get a new compressor wheel, seals and everything. The shaft was balanced, and now it looks like it would have from Turbonetics. The housings were even sandblasted inside and out for a smooth clean surface.

That's who I dropped my turbine off to. It only took them a few days. Took longer because he had to order in a compressor wheel.
