Default b16a timing off

i have a 91 crx si and i swapped a b16 in, and its been working for a good 2-3 months and i was just crusin along and it sounded like it was out of gas and started backfiring and just died. so when i took it to my house i was gettin fuel and spark so the only other reason it wont start is the timing right? and how do u set it if the timing belt jumped or skipped at the crank?

use a timing light would probably be the fastest way to check

rotate the crank to TDC and make sure both the cam gears face "up"...... the gears have up on them if they are out of alignment then you will know thats the problem

and if you rotate the crank to TDC and the cam gears look like the "up" is facing down then you are at TDC for number 4 so rotate it around again till the gears are at up or the general area of up

k i have crank on tdc and both cams on up and both little lines on the cams line up so i have that right, right? so when i try to start it up the spark SHOULD be right on right? then i need to adjust the spark advance right?

as long as your crank is on the TDC mark and your cam gears are both facing "up" vertical....... then your timing is set right

if its correct i would look into the distributor it could be a coil, cap & rotor, etc

you can use a timing light to check even if it won't start. connect to the bat then to the #1 plug wire point at the mark pull the trigger and have someone crank it.

Have you had the disstributer cap off this sounds almost exactly like a problem I came across at school and at work. where the rotor comes off the dis shaft because the screw falls out. preaty common on older 91 civics. if the rotor came loose in can still spark but not at the right time.
