How much oil should you put in if you change the oil filter on a 1987 accord?

 

the oil filter holds a very small amount of oil, less than half a quart, so if u change the filter, u can probably just top it off with like 1/4 qt or so.

 

that has to be the stupidest question... what is this forum becoming?

 

My car takes 4 quarts, its a 90

 

if you are changing oil and filter,, it taks 4 qts..

I rather have someone ask a stupid quewstion than make a stupid mistake ..

 

Hold on. We can all tell you how much oil the filter holds and how much the car holds (if you had told us what car) but we can NOT tell you how much oil to put in if you only replace the filter.

Reason is why don't know how fast you can swap the filter and how much oil will come spewing out onto your arm. If you can measure the amount of oil spewed onto your arm before you get the new filter on then I would put in that amount plus .5 quart.

BUT, why would you do this? Just change the oil while you are at it.

He did say it was a '87 Accord. After replacing the filter, start your car up and lett he oil get into the one. Shut it off and check. I would say you have to add just a little less that 1/4 of a qrt. Whe it comes to topping Hondas off, you need to be carefull because they are very 'sencetive" on the dip stick. Do little by little.

This forum is not "becoming" but is a helpfull site to all who needs help with their knowledge. And to tell you the truth a lot of people learn from this site. I can say that about myself. Because of people like you this site is "becoming" not because of the questions. Hope everyone will agree with me on that one. Thanx guys.
