What head
Hey guys, how can i tell what head my car has?? I believe it is a b16 head(b17 block).....but i am not exactly sure if it is b16a or b16b, or even if it is infact a b16. There is some embossed writing on the front of the head but it doesnt say any kind of model and on the side of the head there isa sticker but it is ripped and ilegable.....Here a picture by the way.
THere are markings on the side of the head(from the pic, on the front and back)
They will say the year like this 9|1 or 9|5 ,etc for the year it was made.
Also markings such as PR3, P72, PR4, etc will tell you what kind of head it is.
Another thing also on the type of manifold is on it. Of course if its some generic, blox, etc manifold, they all look simlar so cant tell. But obviously a GSR OEM manifold will only fit GSRs.
There are other clues, but those are the easiest to check.

I am almost 100 percent sure it says pr4, but it might be pr3......I can't find anything online that lists which is which...would anyone happen to know?? Thanks for the info exo...i actually need a block build and i am considering you.

i can tell you exactly what head it is if you get the date off the head,,its right above the exhaust manifold,,because just pr3 doesnt tell the whole story,,can be a auto 1g b16 head or a 01 type-r head..and what does it say after the pr3 should be pr3-xxx

b17a has different crankshaft and longer rods to give it the 1.7Litre,,besides that its basically the same engine..

You can also tell its a B16/PR3 head becuase of where the upper radiator hose connects. (on the back side or intake side). On GSR heads its on the front of the head.
