Default Oil smell/consumption

I did a search on these boards and found out that many have "problems" with oil consumption on their R. Not really a problem because it burns more oil than others at high rpm`s.

I have an 98 R w 100k miles and i think the oil consumption is increasing.

Previously i ran on Castrol 10w40 and i could sometimes smell the oil burning only in vtec. Now i run Mobil 1 0w40 and i smell the oil from about 4k rpm, not only in vtec anymore. This has to be the oil, right? I dont think the consumption changes over night.

A friend also saw some blue smoke coming from my exhaust.

Would it be wise to do a compression/leakdown?

I fear i need new piston rings, and with that comes the whole package. Probably have to ship my block to the US next winter for a hone.

This sucks, and my wallet will get really empty.

How much oil are you consuming?? Blue smoke is definitely not a great sign. Also when do you see blue smoke?? Under wide open throttle?

Wide open throttle yes. Not sure about the consumption, 2-3l every 3-4k miles or so, and I dont even drive that hard. To me that is alot.

Edit: If I havent eaten for several hours the smell causes a headache. That is really annoying.
