Burns oil, what can cause this?
Hello, my civic burns oil, it eats one liter of oil in 700KM, thats a lot. Now, it doesn't smoke under normal rpm, at least I dont see it smoking, but when I rev it past vtec I can notice some smoke coming out, now its not super blue, since its cold season here, its mostly normal smoke as out of all cars but past vtec I can notice a light blue hint. Car drives fine though. So, I want to know what can cause oil burning issue in these little engines. Engine is D15 with D16 vtec head. I didn't do it myself. The engine has oil around it but from what it looks like the guys who did the engine didnt bother cleaning it at all because I was under the car and I didn't notice any leaks, also when I move it from a spot it was standing in I dont see any oil spots, so I assume if it has a leak it might be not the cause for that much oil usage. Mostly smokes on high RPM as I said. Let's share what can cause oil leaks. I suspect that my oil rings are busted but want to hear more reasons for that. Thank you in advance.

It could be rings.. try to change out the pcv valve as well...it could be dirty and it’s not expensive.. my car burns too I’m running 10w-40 with a small bottle of stp oil treatment at the beginning of the oil change and in between oil changes and I’ve noticed it’s not as bad as it was.. I put a new head and gasket on and I believe it may have caused my rings to wear out some what... but it’s worth a shot

The poor little PCV. So important, often overlooked.
