ZC problem ..need help
Alright, well my ZC's idle would stick at like 2 grand untill I put my foot behind the pedal amd brought it towards me. Then it would drop down to 750. I though this was a sign of the TB sticking so I took it off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. I put it back on and the idle was at 3000!. I adjusted the idle back down to 750 and reset the ecu. Now when I start the car it idles at around 2 grand (rising on its own at times), but then goes back to normal idle when I bring the pedal towards me.
I'm lost. I really cant even drive it anymore. Its so bad. I'm thinking the problem is with the throttle cable. I'm using the DX cable and when I move it under the hood the idle rises up to 4 grand +. Took me forever to get it to set in there to even idle at 2 grand. (the idle screw is turned all the way down when idling around 750). Whats the proper way to route the DX throttle cable.
ALso, After driving it around the block, like this loud ringing sound during a bit of acceleration. I think it may be coming from that dashpot thing.. I dont know., can anyone help me out. I'm 17 and need this car as my daily driver.
thanks,
Joe

when my zc wagon did that i tracked it down to a leaking vacum hose. i would sugest you check all your hoses and make sure none are craked or not seated properly. good luck
Listen to what he said about lifting the throttle with his foot dropping the idle speed. Sounds to me like his throttle pedal or cable is binding. Make sure it moves freely when its disconected from the throttle body. Or check the return spring on your throttle body. But I bet a bindg cable ot gas pedal is the problem.
hey, I'm pretty sure the sticking at 2 grand is the throttle cable. I was wondering what could be causing the noise though. Its pretty loud and annoying as hell.
If its a rushing air sound look at the Big brass screw on the end of the thottle body facing the passenger side, that is your air bypass screw, should only be roughly 1.5 turns out from seated, mine almost fell out it was so loose. that should solve that noise and your idle problem, it could be letting way too much air bypass the thottle butterfly. But it could also be a ported vacume leak, triple check the hoses welland their connections. I have never heard a ringing sound before but a ported vacume leak would occur during acceleration when manifold vacume is lowest and ported vacume is at its highest..

mine did the same thing. I had to take off T/B and clean it out along with the butterfly. I tried carb cleaner and my T/B laughed at me. I had to take a wire brush(high speed) and kinda bore it a lil to get it all clean. After that it worked fine.
I used throttle body cleaner and a rag. Hit it with cleaner, scrubbed with the rag then it all washed away with the cleaner. The throttle body cleaner is vastly better then the regual carb cleaner. And if you put a single loop in the cable it will take up the slack you need the cable will cross over itself only once.. The HF and Si cables are better. I got a HF one for free at the yard. Thats what I have
