Default need a test for coil

OK, here's the deal. I bought a 95 Civic DX 1.5L for our son not running. Supposedly the head gasket was out. Changed head gasket, timing belt and put everything back together. Still nothing. Tested stuff for awhile before dragging it to the dealer who said it was the internal coil. Bought one and put it in and it ran fine. Now it's about 6 months later. Leave work last night, made it about a block or so and it just died. Cranks fine, gas is fine, no spark. Anyway to test the coil and does anyone have any recomendations on where to get one? I found one shipped for $30.

Pull out one of your spark plug wire and crank to see if there spark, but move the wire that you pull and put it close to something that is ground before cranking the motor.

did that....no spark. Took the cap off and hooked a wire from the coil and held it close to ground and nothing. I was told there are 2 probablities. 1 is the coil and 2 is the ignition module.

I called all the part stores in town and the cheapest one is at Checkers for $85. I don't really want to throw that much away unless I know it's what's bad.

Use a volt meter and turn the key on but don't start the car and test the wire that is on the coil if there 12volt to the coil, if there is voltage to the coil then the coil is just bad but if there not any voltage then it might be your igniter unit is dead.
