when you undid them did you hit them with a hammerthat can cause this problem what i allways do when this happens is grab the top of the ball joint with some vise-grips and tread the bolt all the way up than try putting it back togeather and see if it does the same thing again

have someone stand on the hub to give the ball joint more seating pressure so it wont spin as easy.

grab the tapered shaft with channel locks or vice grips and get the right size die its 12x1.25 i believe, and run it to clean the threads and the nut will go on like butter, i did this to mine awhile ago and the nuts thread on much easier, or just buy new ball joints

Impact should get it on, although if it spins you have probably degraded the performance of the ball joint enough to make it unsafe.

use a new castle nut or retap the old castle nut threads.

its pretty typical the threads get messed up on either the castle nut or balljoint just enough that they provide enough friction to overcome the friction in the balljoint and tapered surface.

carefully popping off the balljoint and using new castle nuts or retapping them helps.
