rear main seal removal
I have searched, some say remove with screwdriver and a rag but noone explains how this is done. pictures of this would be very helpful and any help greatly appreciated. I would like to do this today if possible.
I can't provide a pic but there is a tool that is meeant for this.Commonly reffered to as a seal removal tool. This is a tool that has a flat long handle about 10" long.
At one end there is a flat hook on it.You insert this end into the center of the seal, getting behind the lip of the seal. Then using the handle of the tool as leverage, rock the tool away from the seal. It should come out fairly easily as long as you have alowed your self proper clearance to use the tool correctly.
Hope this helps

That tool I was talking about is a NAPA PART#3245, SERVICE TOOL.In my Napa tool book at work they call it a "Seal puller". Runs about $12.00 and is worth every dime so you don't take a chance of damaging something using other "methods" .a.k.a, B.M.F.H.)
Its probably best to just pull the whole housing off. I dont know what engine you have, but on my DOHC ZC if you take the oil pan off, you can remove the housing and remove\put on the new seal really easily. I didnt because I was too lazy, but then my rear main isnt completely seated either.
They should be able cross the part number.Or if you can find any one who knows their but from a tailpipe, they should be able to help you out with what your looking for.It is not that uncommon of a tool.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but can anyone tell me exactly where the rear main seal is located?
I bought a d15b7 and the guy said it needed to be replaced.
Thanks in advance.
