Default Oil Covered SparkPlugs

I own a 95 honda civic EG3 and i live in Ireland, I was just after changing the oil in the car and had just started to change the plugs when i took the second one out and it was covered in oil. The plugs were in there really tight and took ages to get out.

I read in the Haynes manual and it said it could be oil is leaking past worn valve guides, piston rings. Just really wanna know if this is as serious as i think it is because i have also read this is also due to a fairly worn engine.

If its too expensive to fix i think just getting a new car imported from Japan would be a better option and then selling my EG3

Any advice ??

Thanks

Was it drenched, or just black? Any smoke out the exhaust? If the car is in decent condition then just do a motor swap.

Valve Cover gasket, replace it along with the rubber seals it comes with it!

Depeds what he means by covered in oil, was it the part inside the engine, or was the hole the plug goes into filled with oil?

Well when i put the socket down to loosen the plug it came back up and the bottom of the socket had oil on it. To be honest the car runs fine but i kinda knew something wasnt right in the engine.

It's normal for that to happen, every car i've replaced plugs on with spark plugs in the valve cover, there's been some oil in there, don't worry about it.

Yeah there was a good bit of oil down there, enough to make me think that something is wrong. I have asked a few people and they seem to think that it may be the rocker cover gasket , well i dont know if this is true or not.
